Question for Y-Wing builders

How many different model kits are there parts from on the Y-Wing? I doh't want to know what kits, just about how many.

Even a ball-park figure or outright guess would be fine.

Seriously, though...

I'm going to be setting up a display of my studio-scale models at an IPMS show in October. I have a resin Studio Scale Y-wing that is assembled and primered that I will be displaying (as a 'work-in-progress') along with the others to illustrate the kit-bashing technique used in many studio miniatures.

Since it's built and all one color (primed), it better illustrates the numerous kit parts better than a painted/weathered model.

I want to have a placard that reads the following:

"This highly-accurate recreation of the 'Y-Wing' filming miniature from Star Wars (1977) incorporates parts from over (?) different commercially-available plastic model kits. How many can you identify?"

The quesiton mark is where I want to fill in the requested number.

So I assume the number 42 is a bit of a (Hitchhiker's Guide) joke, right?

I could go with 'over 60 different kits'?

Now that is a neat idea. I remember at the convention displays, passers by were always pointing out and trying to ID parts. When the time comes, post some pics of your display for us.

Yea, the whole idea is to bring the spectators (and other modelers) into why we love studio scale- the kitbashing/parts hunting being one reason.

Otherwise, those who look at the models just see them as 'big' spaceships without realizing what they really are and the kind of work that goes into them.

I'll also have other placards that describe 'What is Studio-Scale?" and other short explanations of the history of some of the individual models.

Darkside and SWpropmaker are among the members who have kitbashed Y-Wings...perhaps one of them would be willing to give you a rough number. I know Darkside has stated that the Y has more donor kits than the 32" Falcon.

Let me know what kind of feedback you get from folks at the show! I have been to a few IPMS shows, but never displayed at one. I've moslty displayed my SS at sci-fi cons- people were always very interested in the models, but no so much from a 'model builder' point of view. I'm curious to see how the SS stuff is received by an IPMS crowd.
