Question for Star treks "theoretical" Warp Drive

Even if I change the past to 70's Star trek, what should I use for the future??

No, it was a secondary reality caused by an instability in your warp field Matrix. I'd run an inverse tachyon beam through the main deflector array via the secondary plasma conduits, that should return things to normal.

If you do that, just remember you have reroute the phase array through the EPS conduits or you'll wind up creating a subspace distortion field that could effect the isolinear relays.

It's also amusing when looking at that chart. It still takes 22 hours to cross one sector at warp 9.99. Yet the Enterprise-A gets to the center of the galaxy in less than a day. The Enterprise-E gets from the neutral zone to Earth in no time at all to intercept the Borg.



The dialog about the time barrier being broken really makes no sense. Obviously warp drive would have had to be in use in the first place for S.S. Columbia to reach Talos. We later discover that it was invented more than a century before the events of "The Cage."

It was a little blurb that wasn't all that well thought out. It was like Spock smiling at the shaking plant or yelling all the time.

While TOS did think some things through, they fell short. But it was an earnest attempt at Sci-Fi for the time. People getting all upset over Trek canon need to go back and watch TOS 1-3 again. The writers made it up as the went along.

There were no actual established warp speeds back then. It wasn't until pre-production of TNG that Roddenberry wanted a written warp scale with warp 10 at the top. Knowing that they had gone above warp 10 in TOS, everyone involved had to come up with these back stories about it being revamped in universe due to changing technology.

Unlike mach speeds, warp drive speeds... with the exception of warp 1 are at least in the 24th century, based on power consumption and cochranes. Not really relative to a constant speed like the speed of light. When graphed the warp scale is an asymptote that increases toward infinite speeds until reaching warp 10... which is infinity.

Since it's not really established in TOS, warp factors may or may not have been based on the speed of light. There have been different speed calculations floating around since the 60's.

For dramatic purposes to show that technology was improved in the future for "All Good Things..." there's several lines of dialog that use warp speeds above 10. I suppose one could say that the scale was revamped again because saying "warp 9.99994" could be a bit tedious and time consuming.

The way I understood it was that the warp bubble literally created a bubble apart from space/time around the ship. So they are travelling at warp outside regular time/space so that you don't have that time gap.

Oh jeeze... okay... here goes.

All mass warps space. So matter causes space/ time to curve. In fact, what we perceive as the force of gravity is in fact the warping of space by mass... according to Relativity.

Since matter and energy are interchangeable, the idea is that properly controlled energy can warp space. So, a starship uses layers of what they call “warp field energy” to warp space. Each layer of energy exerts more energy onto the outside field. This causes a warping of space, while traveling through a field of subspace.

We have no way of knowing whether or not energy can currently warp space… and we know even less about subspace. So if you’re expecting to be able to build one of these, forget it.

Actually there are plenty of REAL scientists that think about these things.

I remember reading an article in Popular Science years ago about NASA setting up an advanced research think tank that would examine "crazy" concepts. They were trying to figure out how a warp drive or hyperdrive in SW would work. I think it's shut down now though.
