Question about Pepakura Iron Man Costumes

Hi, after viewing the wonderful things that the people here have made, I have been encouraged to make my own Iron Man (Mark II or III, still debating) costume using pepakura models and EVA Foam. My conundrum is that I see that some people are able to allow the helmet to emit an led light from the eye lenses, and even motorize the face plate, which is very cool, but when you motorize it, doesn't it render the helmet unwearable since there are exposed wires? Also, when you light up the eye parts with LED's, does it blind you from sight, and if so, is there any alternatives that allow you to see what is going outside using some form of technology?

If you skim through the linked thread below, it'll give you an idea of how the installations work and look. Wiring and such can be completely hidden inside the helmet, and the rear of the LEDs are typically blacked out. You're not looking through the illuminated area of the eyes, but right below (or above) where they are installed.
