Hey guys! i just bought a black Jansport Slacker.

I'd like to know if some of u did the swap to dye this backpack in blue..
First of all.. i'd like to know if it's better to remove the JS tag and the suede one?
Then do i have to simply pour the bag in a solution of 3parts water/1part bleach?
Wait around an hour.. Then machine wash + Dry Machine?

After then, i could Dye it with denim and navy RIT Dye?

i'm a little concern about how to resew the suede patch and jansport tag back....
also, will the bleach will ruin strap shoulder and the back of the backpack, or the nylon won't change color after be immersed an hour in the clorox solution?

Thanks for helping! I'm totally new to this!

Got my answer PV by The Amazing Heyjude7 thanks a lot man!! Will post if someone wants to know.

Bleach will weaken the fabric yarns. Depends what the fiber content is. If it's a natural or man made synthetic (not polyester) you can use dye remover instead. If the straps are nylon, the colour will still be removed in most cases.

Why didn't you just buy a blue backpack? Am I missing something here?

U are as the slacker is discountinuated forever. So as its a prop from TASM 1 and 2.. Id like to get it as close as possible to the movie version.

Actually as the straps, JS tag and backing arr made of polyester, those should not be affect by bleach. Only to cotton/denim part will be and the suede patch has to be removed also.

BTW thanks for taking time to answer!

Hey dude did you end up doing this? It sounds like a great idea! If it works well, I'd love to see what you did and how you did it!

Can't wait man!
OK so this is the msg sent to me by Heyhude7 who gives me an incredible help on this one!! Once again, thanks man!!
Process:
First. Take the leather patch off. Jus cut the thread and remove. It is super easy to put back on after all the dying.
Second. Fill a washing machine with 50/50 water/bleach
Let the bag soak in it until desired color (which is a light khaki) you won't get it to white so khaki is the closest
Third. Wash in mild detergent and them let air dry until damp
Fourth. While damp, prepare a large pot of boiling water. Put a packet of royal blue due in it and then mix well.
Put the damp bag in it. Let it soak for 30 mins. Rinse in warm water and then cold water until it runs clear. Repeat the dying process twice because the first time will be light.
After the second dye rinse in cold water and then dry in dryer with a towel. Just so the bag doesn't burn from being alone In the dryer. See patch on and you are good after that. It will fade in the right areas by using it. The dye will only take to the canvas and nothing else.

Personnaly i did it only once and it turn really nice! I put it in a bucket as i was scared about ruining my washing machine.. Pictures to come when im done sewing the patch back.

We want pictures!
Still need to get a better picture loll.. but u can see it on the floor.. I brought it at the last week end con!
