I hope Polar Lights decides on doing the new Enterprise in the scale of thier refit 'A' model.

That would make the new Enterprise a leviathan.

The Nu E is humongous! I guess that explains how they got 10,000 Vulcans aboard. Don't know how you'd squeeze 10,000 people onto something the size of the refit.

I don't think they were supposed to have beamed up 10,000 Vulcans... Spock just says he thinks there are 10,000 who survived. :lol

Come to think of it, I don't suppose the Enterprise beamed up ANY Vulcans, in addition to the 4 or 5 that Spock rescues from that underground cave! You'd think Acting-Captain Whoever It Was at that particular moment, would have ordered crash-emergency wide-field beaming up of whoever happened to be out in the open, under the circumstances.

But this is a more cruel and uncompromising Star Trek... so if your planet blows up, don't' come crying to Captain Kirk. :lol

I believe the image posted above shows the Galactica out of scale (previously assumed dimensions, since proven incorrect).

Constitution: 288.6 meters
Nu E Abramsprise: 725.35 meters
Galactica: 1445 meters

In most cases, there is no such thing as "studio scale" of a CG model.

oh goody, are we going to have this assinine debate again?

if a physical model of the CG subject is produced in an accepted studio 'scale' then its studio scale capiche? simples.

Now HERES an interesting rumor just relayed to me by someone who worked on the film (and shall remain nameless). APPARENTLY the scale issues ARE related to the interior set design specifically Engineering which was one of the last scenes shot. There was no more money for an elaborate engineering set to be built and so JJ was told to make do hence the Brewery. The brewery scenes dictated a size and scale that differed from the INTENDED size of the enterprise which even as as far back as the original trailer with the welders on the saucer indicated a size more in keeping with TMP. It seems this uncertainty from multiple AUTHORIZED sources as to the size of the ship is because they are now saying it is bigger then they had intended it to be but just not sure how much.

No problem with it being bigger.

The Kelvin encountered a ship with vastly superior systems. It starts a chain of events that leads to starships being bigger from that point forward. 25 extra years of ship upgrades.

Thanks for the new size chart! I thought there was something fishy about the new 1701 being estimated at 2500 meters! LOLOL.... I mean... seriously? The now 725 meters sounds at least reasonable. That is about 2X the length of a real Nimitz class Aircraft Carrier... which is pretty huge in itself!

After finally seeing the new Star Trek... I am pretty pumped up. I almost decided to fast track a 7-8 footer of the new beastie! LOLOLOL There are many vessels from that movie that now have my attention. Including some of the Klingon ships from the Kobiashi Maru Test simulation!

Crossing my fingures Polar lights decides to make a 'big' model kit of the new Enterprise. As far as 'fan' kits go, I don't think going over more than four feet is a good idea...unless you want to get rid of your dining room in exchange for a display room.

Watched the movie again, and no way it's that size, regardless of what they've said after the fact. The shuttles are less than 20' tall (seem to be around 12' or so, based on people standing outside them in the shipyard), and the hanger deck is about 40'). It's the same basic size as the Refit. The rest of these numbers are stupid.

Slightly off topic, but seeing that many fans weren't too fond of the new Enterprise design, what are your thoughts regarding the design after seeing different angle shots of this model?

I mostly disliked it from Pre-production still photos, but in action, I honestly loved it. Of course I'm partial to the TMP Enterprise anyway.

It's grown on me. The Refit is my favorite vehicle design of all time (screw the guy who designed the Ent-E!). This new one has really grown on me, but the common nits are still there. Especially the fact the nacelles are pushed together, and are so bulbous on the front ends.

One thing that's worrisome is the prevalence in nacelle sag in the models QMx used for the art pieces. Hopefully they'll include an armature.
