QMx & Other New Sonic Screwdrivers Thread

QMX definitely seems to be going for a "Original METHOD" line, as opposed to anything else. Their Star Wars products are going down the route of same molds (or the closest possible recreations of the original molds/bucks) as the originals, same materials, etc.

QMx don't make Star wars items. I think you have them confused with eFX.

We can't expect the $200 mark. I'm not arguing that it's impossible or anything... It's just that when that target price was announced, it was a totally different project with totally different contractors... Kenney wasn't involved yet, so I think right now we have to be satisfied with the new status of the price still being worked out.

$200 was a bit of a pipe dream anyways I think (but we can still dream). It'll be interesting to see how things develop with QMx either way.

"Like Alice, I try to believe in three impossible things before breakfast." - The 5th Doctor, The Five Doctors.

...or something to that effect. I'm still hopeful that they'll do an artisan line (stoopid bragging rights expensive and dead on) and an "everybody else" version which is as close as possible but skids in under a set price ceiling ($200-$250 sounds awesome).

Totally agree. I think what we would get if the target is $200.00 is not what we would want from something like this. To low ball it would almost certainly require the accuracy to be compromised and with all of the potential in this project (Kenny/Nick) it just would not make sense to compromise and blow it to come in at that price. Lets face it, they are talking about a run size of 100 - 500 with the guy that made the props for the show overseeing the project, these are going to sell out regardless of if the price is $100.00 or $800.00 (just random numbers).

Don't get me wrong, I would love to only have to spend $200.00 but I am honestly not thinking for a minuet that is going to happen seeing what is going into this :lol. Like anything else, you can do it right or cheap.

The low and hi end thing is a great idea but I wonder if they can shave enough off of the production cost to do that.

I'm also hoping they stay honest and ask for it what it is worth. How many times have we all dealt with someone selling a $50 widgit for $500?

(Disclaimer - random dollar amounts have been used in this post and are not intended to reflect potential pricing or infer pricing policies by this or any specific seller of goods.)

I think this is a safe comment to apply to all posts that contain any comments regarding price tag - we may be walking a thin line regarding the discussion of price outside of the JY but I do feel the very nature of the production of this prop just begs to have price discussed.

Well, with talk of modern sonics being such a total minefield I figured I'd play it safe. Since Kenney showed up the thread has become a lot more positive again. I didn't want to screw that up.

Hi Guys,
Just wanted to check in. Wasn't really able to post.... I have a movie I'm working on now and that deadline is getting ready to hit me. As soon as I get these couple of things under control, we can discuss a little more in depth. I did forward a good deal of my photos of the original hero to Andy and asked him to talk to the studio about giving me the green light to release some pics. Don't get your hopes up too much because the pics fall under the NDA contract and they were very clear about releasing pics. So, we'll see. I'm kind of between a rock and a hard place. I want to share... it's just that I have to be careful with these studios. They put a lot of trust in me... no to forget... they feed me. To be honset with you.... a lot of the studios don't really care for their contractors participating on forums. Anyway, let's see how we can make this thread better than just a discussion. I'll come up with something.

That would be good. It's difficult to talk about the hero props without offering the pics to show people the evidence, and I, like you will never betray a trust. Although if you do offer those pics, then people really won't want them copied 100% accurately, especially if you referenced them post Eleventh Hour shooting :lol

Thanks Kenney! Would love to see pics but I quite understand.

Not sure if Phez will buy it though. After all:

To those that have seen proof, it is a fact. To those that have not seen any proof it is fiction. It moves from fiction to fact through an individual seeing proof like any other reference on this board.

Little different bud, I have worked with licensees before and know the types of reference materials they have access to including obvious hands on to the real prop (and the guy who made the original). If at any point I tell you someone at the BBC has decided to ship me the hero props so that I can make and sell illegal knock offs, one of you better ask a few questions :lol (even if I do email you a few pic's).

So...no one has mentioned how the replica will be packaged. Any thoughts or ideas on a presentation box for the replica? I don't think anyone here would argue that the item would certainly deserve a nicely thought-out and well designed presentation box - similar to how the Master Replicas lightsabers were done...
Any thoughts?

Hand-delivered by Karen Gillan?

Ships in a life-size TARDIS console?

Ships in a life-size TARDIS?

Those are my ideas.

Aren't we putting the cart before the horse here?

How about the little storage box that we see them stored in during production. We see it in the DrWho Season 4 confidential scenes. That would seem to be appropriate for what this is and it would be cheap and work good to protect the piece. There could be a little cut out in the foam where the description plaque could go.

Here it is with the 10 Sonic but something similar could be used for the 11th also. Maybe red foam to make it pop a little more :lol

You guys should make Nick sign the little plaque also :)

Just a thought.
