QMX New Releases: Trek, Stargate, DW, WH13 PICS PG.2

News from Dragoncon on the working zat from QMX

Andy (QMX) displayed and donated a prototype and #1/500 at the Stargate charity auction. Unfortunately, I had to leave for a flight when the auction was at $3500 (each).

Andy said the release would be in 60 days at a price of $1200-1500. Ouch!!

Prototype worked well though lacked the sound and light fx on production models.

Price around what everyone figured it seems...

Also announced/seen at DC was QMx's Tom Baker replica coming soon as well!

I'll echo that ouch! I was not expecting that much for a working Zat. Maybe 600-800 but ouch!

What kills the price on the Zat is the machine time for the metal outer shells, still a lot of money considering they've basically just scanned the thing and didn't have to engineer it from scratch themselves. If they could have just figured out a way for a metal internal brace (mainly in the middle section) with beefed up hinges & resin cast outer shells then it could have been a lot cheaper. At this point to hit the most market at a lower price point, since this is basically going to be an artisan piece, they might seriously want to consider offering a cast open zat with the sound electronics in it.

Well I think the price is reasonable they could have gone way higher on it considering that they are the first to bring out a working Zat and assuming that almost every Stargate fan wants one..

The timing is a bit bad though :p

I wonder if there will be different paint schemes for the ZAT aside from the gold one on youtube, I'd dig a grey/black version. I might have to think about that payment plan... though there's just so much cool stuff being offered this year, my wallet is going to hate me

What QMX needs to do as far as the zats go is make the run larger, from what I understand the run is going to be fairly limited which is probably part of the reason why they plan on charging so much. Considering how many Stargate fans would love to have a working zat replica they should like double or triple the run and make their money through quantity, I'm sure they'd sell really well if they just lowered the price by a couple hundred dollars or so.

I don't trust the eBay preorder people. Then again I don't trust most people anyway. ;)

Me neither, I always buy from a regular online outlet if possible. :cool I was hoping that might be some kind of indication of a pending release date but as I've seen before, sometimes those ebay preorders are months and months in advance.

They're hand made here in the states to ensure quality (thus the small run) and a few hundred wouldn't make a difference since it would still be $1000+.

The people with $$ and desire will buy it regardless. I'm not up on collector demographics but I'm guessing it would need to be under $700-800 to attract more folks and under $300-400 to sell thousands.
