QMX mal pistol question

Does anyone know if the grips can be easily removed from the Mal pistol? I was thinking about getting one and just making wooden grips for it as an easy upgrade. (I will likely get the pistol anyway but wanted to get an idea now.)

Hey, you're in the same town as me. :D

I haven't looked that closely at the ones I'm selling but I think they are held in place with an allen screw. There could be glue underneath, I'm not sure. I can check when I get home tonight if you like.

I emailed their customer service yesterday about this. Jessica was very polite and answered immediately, and she says no, the grips are not removable.

They might want to make that clear on their site, though.

I wonder why they are not removeable. They must be glued unless their pictures are severely outdated.

Bluefive, if you can take a look at one you have that would be awesome. I'm going to ask my wife to buy me one for X-mas so you might be getting an email from me soon.

While it's bad for those that want to swap 'em out (I would have too), fastening resin grips with only allen screws would not have been a durable solution, especially if these "stunt" pistols are supposed to be able to take the pounding of "trooping". The pressure required would most likely put a lot of stress on the resin grips and make them wobbly after repeated handling.

Grrrrr. Argh. The plot thickens. :confused

I emailed Jessica at QMX suggesting that they update their stunt pistol webpage, and she wrote me back:
Just double checked and yes the grips are removable, sorry for the wrong info. its been a long couple of days.

Blufive - is the grip securely glued, or maybe just stuck? I know you probably don't want to pry too hard and potentially ruin a piece of unsold stock.

:confused

I don't expect blufive to try it. But I might try it once I get mine, but that might not be until X-mas. So if anyone else is crazy enough to try, be sure to let us know!

Well, my order was in as of Saturday evening, but I'm not sure how soon they'll ship it. I'll take a look at mine when it arrives.

I just removed the screws again and tugged on the grips. Neither one of them will budge. I don't want to try to pry them off, as I may chip the resin.

Blufive: You're a QMx reseller, right? How about you, Ironman? I'm asking because I'm trying to be as specific as possible when emailing QMx about this. I just sent them a reply, telling them of your experiences and asking for further clarification.

It's official: The grips are NOT removable. Per an email from Jessica at QMX:

I have spoken to the manufactures and the grips were not held in place sufficiently with just the screw so the handles are indeed glued on and not meant to be removed. The pistol grips are not meant to be removed, if a customer attempts to remove them and damages the product it is the customers responsibility not ours. So sorry for all the confusion, I hope this clears the matter up for you.
(emphasis mine)

Looks like joatrash got it right!

Which makes absolute sense.
