Purple Female Mandalorian cosplay

Hi guys and girls ,
New member here and been into pepakura and that for some time but thought i'd share with you all my first big armor creation for my partner , she just attended Brisbane supernova for her first con as a female mandalorian which i made using EVA foam and fiberglass. Build took in total about 2 months on and off and very pleased with the result which also got huge attention from the crowds. Photos include all the build as well as the final suit worn at supernova, we'll be rebuilding the whole thing soon but this time using PVA closedcell foam and also going to start work on a suite for meself

Had so much fun putting this together and yes the gun is just a nerf gun repainted for effect. Thanks so much for peeps letting me have the templates for the armor although if your going to do this yourself i would recommend some serious patients with the helmet as that takes ages to shape and mold correctly, took so much filler and heat just to get the right shape. Next time thinking of just buying one.

Thanks guys , was real fun making this first set and cant wait to get started on the next project which im hoping to be a Cylon from the original battlestar series , also saving money up to buy a xenomorph off monsterroom as thats always been my fav character off any scifi and the thought of going to a con as a xenomorph really appeals to me. However back to the present ive just ordered 20 sheets of sintra to redo the mando and also build my owe set so will post as i go , really looking forward to working with this stuff as it seems so much easier than foam and fiberglass. Been reading and watching alot of utube vids on this , any tips for a new builder ?

I can say you're already off to a good start. I don't know if you've been over to the Mandalorian Mercs site yet. Free to join and you can spend daaaaaaaaays just browsing through the forums seeing what tips and tricks people have come up with, what pointers and advice for what works and what doesn't. I won't bother pointing out that the material you used for the v1 kit isn't recommended, as you're already upgrading.

I don't know what resources/workspace/tools you have or have available to you, but my preference for Mando armor is metal, when one can manage it. Quite a few folks make theirs out of aluminum or mild steel, which only requires heavy snips and a light hammer, really. Mine is stainless steel, which ups the ante by needing a blowtorch. But this level of metalworking is pretty easy. The hardest part is getting past the intimidation factor of learning a new skillset. And, I think, the benefits are worth it. Plastics only like to bend in one plane when heated, unless you have proper thermoforming equipment, which stretches and compresses the material as it's shaped over a form. With sintra and a heat gun, at least, you can deconstruct the templates to figure out where the compound curves are and work darts in to better contour the plates when you form the plastic. Metal is much better behaved, in that regard.

Photobucket deciding to be stupid makes it more difficult to show, but here's a friend of mine in a couple of her many costumes. She does the armor herself out of aluminum.

Her learning curve was less than a year form initial experimentation to this level of awesome.

Just some thoughts.
