Pulse Rifle - Display

OK! So no new progress updates except that I discovered that a friend of mine has a jig saw that I'm going to use to cut the space for the lighting hardware this weekend. Also, I ordered the 8in cold cathode lights and the wall adapter this morning!

Hopefully by this weekend all the construction will be completed and the only thing left to install will be the lighting! :)
great news indeed.....this will truly be a unique piece of art....Congrats....on your idea coming to life.

So the day to cut has arrived!! I just took painstaking measurements to make sure that I've got the cutout as centered as possible for where I want it to be....but I must admit, not being a carpenter or expierenced in doing this is making me a little nervous!!

Fingers crossed. I'll be doing the cutout shortly! More pics to come!

Always!!

I've got about an hour and a half until my friends wife will be home and able to watch their kids while we make the cutout.

In the mean time, I cut 4 pilot holes to get things started with a 5/8in spade bit.

I almost forgot!

This week I was at work an unpacked a new iMac and as I was starting take stuff to the trash, I noticed these 4 foam pads (roughly 9inx5in) in the box:

I carefully removed them so as not to rip them - I realized that they'd be perfect for 2 parts of this project - 2 pads for the bottom corners to protect the wall, one in the middle, and one to fill the cutout space for where the lighting will go to help prevent light from escaping on the back!

Not a bad way to recycle some otherwise useless materials!

Success!! The cut is done and came out as good as I could have hoped for:

It may look a little off center, but the center line is actually the left most side of the blue tape - and I measured it out to be sure that it's in the best position.

Now that that's done, I reassembled the frame boarder and now am able to complete assembly!

More pics to come!

Thanks! I was really glad that the cut came out so clean. Going to eat a little lunch, and start measuring to apply the hazard tape! Once that's on, the centerpiece can be secured and the gun brackets and hooks can be assembled and installed!

Whew!! It doesn't look like it, but wow that was hard!!!

I REALLY like the way that the hazard tape looks, but getting it to line up as perfectly as possible was a real pain in the rear...

Next I'm going to secure the middle section.

Hey Hey!! Check it out!! All together!!!

And though I have a slightly longer and brighter light coming this next week, I couldn't help but do a lighting test with it now that it's all together!!!

I'm so pleased with how this turned out!! Seeing the ALIENS plate come alive was just awesome!!

So all that I have left to do is get the hardware to hang it and then wire up the permanent lighting when it arrives, and then place this baby on the wall!

That is a thing of beauty. Post a picture of it's home on the wall once it's finished, and up. That is amazing. I want to buy a PR now, and do something. Great job.

Thanks guys!! I have to admit that though I had a pretty good idea of how I envisioned this project turning out, that even I'm a bit surprised at seeing it all together!!

I think I'm gonna have to watch ALIENS again tonight!! LOL!!
