PROJECT: TERRIBLE FATE (Making an aged Majora's Mask)

At last! I've done the spikes. I was having some issues with my turning machine but now it's fixed. They were made one by one so they are a bit bigger than I wanted them to be and they are not perfectly equal but with some sanding and Apoxie I should correct that, but in the mean time have a look of how it's turning out.

I present to you my new side project, The Clock Tower from The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask Video Game. I will be working on this along with the Mask but the cool thing is that the tower will serve as a stand for the mask when it is finished. I decided to make the Clock Tower because I didnt wanted to just make a simple and boring stand so instead I figured I should do something related to the game and what better than the iconical Clock Tower from the game!

Base coat - RPF.jpg

First step after primer, the base coat. In this case I used a wood color for the front of the mask because when I paint with the other colors there will be areas where those colors will be faded revealing the base coat simulating wood. As for the back of the mask I used a metallic spray simulating metal. It looks too shiny and clean but now comes the fun part! weathering, with this I will make sure everything looks old, rusty and beaten.

And the back of the mask is ready! This is a before and after of how it evolved. At first it looked too shiny and clean so I started experimenting with acrylic paints, airbrush, charcoal and colored pencils to give it a more rusty old look. For the symbols I decided to use gold because The Legend of Zelda games are always represented with gold, and even if the original mask doesnt have anything in gold I though it would be nice to have that representation somewhere in this version. What do you think?!

First color for the front part of the mask. For the chipped paint parts I used liquid masking so when the paint dried I could remove those parts revealing the wood color

Finished painting some of the details from the front of the mask, now it's time for some weathering.

looking cool, never heard of the liquid masking, that's interesting will have to look at it. If it gets covered up with paint I assume it won't come off right?
