Here are a couple teaser pics of my Han ANH blaster buildup. What do you guys think? Can anyone guess what I used as the base gun?

The handle looks awfully real and I don't see any poorly fitting parts, so my first instinct was to say a real Mauser, but on the closer picture the texture makes me think resin. I am stumped, sir.

No resin here :) The flash on the second pic is making the blueing look lighter and duller than it is.

A air-soft Mauser with wooden handle?

Nope, the airsoft Mausers are based off of the m712 broomhandle not the c96 (which this is). The only c96 replica available right now is the denix (which I'm not a fan of) The day that we get a good c96 mauser airsoft readily available will be a good day indeed.

I'd say all real except the bull barrel has me stumped:confused

It's coming along nicely whichever base gun you've used though. I'd be interested as I need a one off Mauser replica to buildup my Luke ESB....the one that was a real Mauser. I've had no luck sourcing a defunct MR.

The MGC Mausers have a pin in the trigger.

Is it one of those Aluminum Cast guns with a real parts added?

The MGC Mausers have a pin in the trigger.

That's why I said "with some real parts".
The trigger, rear sight and grips would all be 'tells' on an MGC.
The rear sight has a different finish than the rest of the gun which leads me to believe that it's a replacement piece. The grips look new too.
If the trigger was replaced as well it may have been an MGC.

Good guesses guys.:lol

It's a reworked MR EE.

They really can clean up to be quite nice with a little work.

I disassembled it, stripped the paint. Reblued everyhting with a cold blue solution, modified the safety to make it move, and replaced the sight with a replica from a Maurshin blowback gun so that it is functional. I also replaced the flash hider. If I can pick up a set of stamps I'm gonna put some serial numbers on it also.

I'm quite pleased that no one guessed it. I suppose I'll take that as a compliment.

One of these days I'm gonna build a real Mauser Han ANH blaster. But until then this one should tide me over :)

aahhhh the safety threw me for a real loop too!! I was even staring at my own MR EE that I weathered and totally refinished as well and still had me stumped.

Great buildup! Be sure and post more progress pics:thumbsup

VERY nice Dan!

Do you know if the grill is removable on the MR ANH EE?
I´ll convert a real C96 in the near future, but would like to use the MR EE for a MerrSonn if possible!? :unsure

Well, I can't seem to find a way to get the grill of.

As to a cheap source for the gun. You would probably be hard pressed to find a cheap Han ANH EE. But the Luke LE blasters are going for around 200 on e-bay all the time. You might use on of those. The only problem is that the trigger doesn't move like the EE, but who knows, maybe that could be changed.

That looks incredible! Makes me want to work on my Hero buildup right now. :)

So... is the Marushin rear sight accurate to the real deal then?

Also, I've asked this before somewhere, but never gotten a satisfying answer: What's the diameter and length of the bull barrel on the MR? Is that accurate to the real hero blaster?

That pretty much made you my personal hero! You've gotta have some serious guts and confidence to be able to do some heavy 'renovation' on a piece like that! :eek

Thanks:lol

It really isn't as hard as you'd think. Acetone and a copper scrubbing padd pretty much gets all the paint off. And the safety mod is actually pretty easy. I don't know why MR didn't make that move except for maybe because of replica gun import issues with China. The prototype had a working safety. And I for one think that the sight is so much cooler with real numbers and a working adjustment. All you have to do to remove the MR sight is cock the hammer and then take a flat head screwdrive and unsrew the faux firing pin. The screw comes away and the sight slides out. Easy peasy.
If anyone needs help with the disassembly. Let me know.
