Re: Free paper-prop thread no.3 - 2008

Just looking at screen grabs (using my thumb and hand to compare) it seemed a bit small. I scaled the image 120%...tied again...it still seemed a bit small so I scaled it again 110%..which seems pretty close to me.

I printed it directly form Paintbrush at full size.

Just thought I'd share my experince. I tattered the one edge, folded it in the 2 places...crinkled it a bit, walked on it, etc.

It seems weathered close enough to match the pictures. I don't think it needs to be aged with teat or coffee..I might do a light mist just to take a bit of the white form the paper...

Re: Free paper-prop thread no.3 - 2008

i think if you want to get closer to accuracy the paper seems to be the paper you get in moleskine journals i think if so you could be right about the journal.

Re: Free paper-prop thread no.3 - 2008

Just come to think of the old movie Howard the Duck, Has anyone made the poster of Indiana jones (indiana duck? ) that Howard has on the wall in his apartment at the start of the movie.
I seem to remember it looking like a raider of the lost ark poster but with indy having a beak.

/Conny

Edit: checked IMDB.com and it says "Breeders of the Lost Stork" on the movie poster :)

Thanks Contec!!!!!

Any idea what size the page is? Seems like maybe a 1/2 of a 8 1/2 x 11??

GREAT WORK!!!!!!!!!

Seconded. Great work! Should go just great with my inbound Gus Caicedo 8' bullwhip. :)

Re: Free paper-prop thread no.3 - 2008

Thank you for that!

Russ

Ditto. :)

Here are a few pics of my "weathered" version. I printed on standard office copy paper, then folded, crumpled, ripped, and soaked in weak coffee. The reddish marks are from rubbing on a piece of red latigo leather from a whip-making project. The second image is the most accurate representation of the letter's color.

Now all I have to do is get my copy of the KOTCS DVD tomorrow and wait for my Gus Caicedo bullwhip to arrive. :cool

Re: Free paper-prop thread no.3 - 2008

I'd like to make a suggestion. I was just looking through the last two free paper prop threads and found that searching the thread doesn't always bring up all of the results it could. Some props were posted, but my search didn't bring them up. With 70+ pages to go through you're bound to miss something.

My suggestion is, when you are actually posting something for download, start by putting the movie/tv show title in your post. This way, when you use the "Search This Thread" option at the top of the pages, you will be more likly to find the props you're looking for.

Re: Free paper-prop thread no.3 - 2008

For you folks who would like to replicate the Mutt KOTCS letter...
i went through thousands of stamps and found the correct ones... and to share here with my RPF brothers (and sisters). ive also included my envelope, which was based on a design by COw member alphared6 which wasnt accurate, reworked by me. and my original marion letter.
pretty much your one stop shop for this prop...
Special thanks go out to RPFers contec (for the ox letter, found above) and jcoffman99 for the picture of ox and mutt, reposted again below.

Wow, UFO!! Outstanding! Thank you so much for sharing these with us... "one-stop shop" indeed! :love

contec, thank you so much for sharing your terrific work with us, too. Very impressive! :thumbsup

I don't think it needs to be aged with teat

I've never tried this particular technique, but it sounds like fun. :lol

Re: Free paper-prop thread no.3 - 2008

Ditto what temponaut said - I sincerely appreciate your hard work and kindness UFO! Great job!!

Re: Free paper-prop thread no.3 - 2008

^ Indeed. I was also working on the Oxley letter a bit more today after finding this COW thread with another take on the letter (also in high resolution). I thought I would post a comparison photo with conny's excellent version above.

On the left is conny's version as posted upthread, printed by a LaserJet on standard white office copy paper and then darkened by soaking in dilute coffee; it was also folded and crumpled. The middle letter is again conny's, but this time printed on heavier weight cream-colored paper and not soaked--just folded and crumpled. On the right is the COW version of the letter, on the same cream-colored paper and folded and crumpled in the same manner. Note that the COW version came out darker on my printer (1200 dpi).

There are reference photos in this RPF thread. Which of the three versions do people like the most?

Man, now I have to work on the Marion letter and envelope. :lol

I also have a Gus Caicedo 8-ft 8-plait bullwhip on the way. :thumbsup

Re: Free paper-prop thread no.3 - 2008

Holy crap I actually contributed something!!! Well it was bound to happen sooner or later. :) Thanks UFO.

Re: Free paper-prop thread no.3 - 2008

Here's one I just made at work. :lol
Quick print on the laser printer.
Cut with office sissors.
Get cup of coffee out of breakroom.
Pat with coffee-dampened papertowel until uniform off-white.
Microwave for 3 seconds.

Re: Free paper-prop thread no.3 - 2008

Which of the three versions do people like the most?

I must say that the COW person that made the other MAP has made it a little better than i have.
I know why my version dont look as dark as the other one, When i drawn all the symbols and figures i used a pencil, thus giving it a grayish color. The COW version lookes to be made with a pen or darken in the computer.
The COW Version seem to have fitted all the symbols and signs better on the map.My guess is he/she had much better screencaps than the ones i had.
Some of the symbols was not shown very good on the screencaps that i had so i made them as good as i could. And one of them i could not see what it was so i made it into a little easteregg......Can anyone spot it?

Nr 1 " Upside down panda with skateboard" I could not make out how it really looked so i made it as i saw fit.
Nr 2 "Parrot" looks better than the COW version, It's just a scaled down version of the bigger one furder down the map.
Nr 3 or "UFO with spider above" as i like to call it, looks better on the COW map.
Nr 4 or "elephant with tusks" is something i could not see clearly.

What about the Easteregg you might say..It's number 5
The LucasArt logo fits pretty good with all those other stick figures :lol.

I Still like my skull better:lol

Re: Free paper-prop thread no.3 - 2008

^ Super-detailed analysis. Thanks!

I couldn't decide which one I liked better, so I did both. :thumbsup I agree that the darker lines of the COW one is nice for a prop display, but I also agree that your skull is the better-drawn one.

Either way, they both make great paper props and I'm glad that the community is sharing them. :)
