$450 for an unsigned version. I forget the price on the signed one ($525 or something), but JB signed the plaque on it.

I agree. So no matter how much you try to dress the sheep up in wolfs clothing it will forever be a sheep.
They could have sold it purple and I would still buy it as it's the only helmet available with actual lineage to an original.
I pre-ordered one from FP for £300 which I think is a good deal for those in the UK.

They did do a great job to match the PP3 version, but that seems unfortunate. Until now I wasn't even familiar with the PP3. I don't know the history on that one.
Looking at the two helmets, if I bought one I'd much rather have Lees paint job on it for sure. That ESB look with the hyperdetailing is just much more appealing to me. This is still the best licensed offering ever produced for this helmet.
At least the shape and size is closer to a screen used helmet. Does it look more like a Jedi helmet to anyone? I noticed even the T-visor has the slanted manidble like the Jedi helmets we've seen. Why couldn't they just scan the ESB hero helmet?

AD are offering them around 360 for the LE and 420 for the SE.

MR's deal was to replicate items IN the archives. If it was out on tour, no dice. When we went to the archives, we got all of the Fett's lined up on the table, and the PP3 was obviously the best choice for replication - the rest of them were stunts and/or inferior (too much damage, etc). From pics we had on hand, we actually thought that was the hero - it was Brak's Buddy that broke the news to me that it wasn't. Whattya gonna do? 
I personally did my best to document the thing for deco, and oh well - it turned out that it wasn't the hero. That's life. I even digitally recreated the little film positive that's in the rangefinder, and hey - looks like MR kept that detail in there! They could have easily omitted it and no one would have ever known or cared... so give MR credit for what they did. (fun fact - it's a pic of a Bedouin-esque fella running from left to right, with a crowd of other similar Bedouin-looking guys storming a wall, I think. It looks like a behind the scenes shot from Lawrence of Arabia or something. Very random... maybe it was an in-joke with someone in 1979, or maybe it's meaningless. It was faded and distorted.)
I think MR has done a truly commendable job with what they have been given to work with, the real-life constraints of mass production, and hiring talent like Lee to do the paint up. LFL has done a wonderful job and have been amazingly flexible for the fans' sake - opening the doors of their archives was pretty much unheard of. Yet they did it for five years for MR because MR could do something special. For the money, you CANNOT get a better helmet. Buy it and have it repainted if you crave hyper-realism, but to get something with a lining and electronics with a direct lineage to a REAL Fett helmet that Joe Johnson (I assume) painted? How can you people complain? I'm stunned.

I think constructive criticism of anything is beneficial no matter how good something is, that is the process through which things can be improved upon. However, complaining is something different, usually has a negative connotation and does not really benefit anyone, the two are different.
Having said that, there are few things on this helmet that I could say could be better. But as been stated before, for the price this is a very attractive helmet and I think MR did a reasonable job of it. The paint job is not screen- accurate but it can always be repainted.

No complaints here moff. It's a great deal, cheaper than I could build one myself. That's why I have one on order . I would not expect a mass produced helmet (especially at this price) to as good as it turned out. I honestly thought these were going to be going out at $600+. Still, being the stickler that I am, I will add some paint to make it more accurate to the film used versions.
