Predator2 mask Journey FINISHED.

sweet beans lee! lookin good for a stunt head. the first dread hole from the top on the left looks a little funny though like its at the wrong angle or somethin and ur first dreadholes near the eyes need to be moved closer to the ridges. theres quite a gap between them. were it a hero head its not quite tall enough and a wee bit too wide. if ur goin for an open mouth i would go all the way and make it a full roar . in my opinion uve made enough of these, u should try molding the mandibles seperate as an appliance and have them movable. if for no other reason than to give me pointers when i feel up to doin it that way . but lookin perty sweet dood.

Did what i said id try last night, i widend the mandibles very slightly and lowerd them by about 1/2 inch, with teeth in its looks to me as if this will not work.

SO, today ill have to open his mouth up , didnt want to do this again. . but. . with the P2 i think its best his mouth is totally open.

As with all my sculpts i want him to look extremely pissed off at me.

anyway heres proof the mouth needs to be open also.

Hmmm,...Yeah let that puppy roar!!!
Drop the bottom jaw about an inch, flair out the bottom mandibles and slightly arch the top mandibles back
Just a suggestion dude.
I would never tell a master how to sculpt

My 2¢----
Lee, with this sculpt, you have definitely moved into the pantheon of accomplished artists on this board. Don't worry about reworking the piece, unless you're on a deadline, let it take as long as you need to----it's gotta be right----in your eyes, and in your comfort zone. (This is the part where I've just opened myself up ) Personally, I find nothing wrong with the mandible position the way it is. I might suggest that at this point you curtail your progress posts on this project until you're almost done. You know what you're doing.....
In going for screen accuracy, why not post a P2 head photo next to yours shot at the same angle? Any questions the observer might have would be immediately answered. Speaking of which...

Simian, while you might think your observations and input to Lee are helpful, but there's a fine line between frequent input and ball busting. It's just human nature. As for your sculpt, my opinion is that the head is sloped a bit too tall, and the dred sockets are too big. They should be around 1" in dia. Those golf balls are about twice that. I don't believe anyone who sells dreds make them that large. Other than that, it's looking good, you've captured the look, can't wait to see more details. Are you using water based clay? Hat's off if you are, it's more difficult than oil, I find.

Looking real nice Lee

You've really got the knack of knocking these things together now

I say as long as your happy with the position of the mouth and mannidibles then just go for it, the original was radio control animatronics right ? so what ever position you but the mouth area in would have been acheivable with the original so It's all down to how you want it to look

Don't let people wind you up mate

This is your 3rd Pred head sculpt right ? and I'd say you keep going the way you are you'll be the dogs bollocks on the top levels of sculpting them and anything you see in your earlier work you can allways put right on later sculpts, it's all a learning process that will continue through out your time doing it.

You've got a great reputation on here and I'm sure anyone bashing you will only be doing themslef more harm than good in other members eyes

keep up the good work bud

thanks for the thoughts EVERYONE

I am constantly trying to learn and improve on my previous sculpts, which shouldnt be hard IMO as i see big flaws in all my previous heads.

for some reason i think the whole stunt head/hero head thing as got into my head  Thats alot of heads lol.

i think i am now going to revert to what i did with my previous work, which is to do MY take with things i like on the sculpt, and NOT try to be film accurate, now call it quitting if you want, i call it MAKING SURE I ENJOY THE PROCESS

This is possibly the hardest sculpt for me, as i stated earlier , i dont really like the P2 head , so sculpting something thats not imo a great look, could be making me slack

ive made some headway with the mouth area today , as ive had a lazy day in front of the tv messing about with the sculpt. ill post some pics of what ive done later today.

chrz.

Upper mandibles added and lowers started.

think i may flair the lowers out alittle more. not sure . ill decide tomorrow .

I really like it so far, but yes I think it would be great if you could do some thing with the lower mandibles, if you culd push them more out.
This way it will look very angry, kind of like the picture I send you.

agreed

I just dont want to go overboard with the expression hehe, but ill try to spred em, alittle tomorrow

I've always loved the shot in the meat packing place where he smashes Harrigon's gun and roars. He mandibles open diagonally instead of side to side. If I were sculpting this, I would make the mandibles point down SLIGHTLY and make them point out to the sides more.

Ya'know what I mean?

Whatever you want to do, Lee. It looks stellar man. I REALLY want one. Looks like I need to get a new job.

For someone who doesnt really like the P2. you make it look like its your favorite! awesome job!

keep it going.

btw...SPREAD OUT THOSE LOWER MANDIBLES MORE!!!!!!

hahahahah jk jk jk (just had to give you a bad time)

Something was bugging me about the sculpt, and i couldnt put my finger on it, whatever i did to him,Manidbles wider/lower etc , he just didnt look p***ed enough.

so i told him to get his ass up a tree i think that worked hehe

actually Ive restructerd alot of the cheak area, slightly narrowed the upper mandibles, and slightly angled out the lower ones. im happier ( NOT happy ) with what he looks like now.

I dont want to take pictures with my camera phone so ill have to wait until the camera comes home later tonight, then ill post for thoughts again.

I think overall now, after a day or so on his upper head, il be ready to say the basic shape is done, and then im ready to attack some symertry issues before detailing.

Pics in a couple of hrs.
