Predator2 mask Journey FINISHED.

Man, Im sorry you are not happy with your sculpt, but you shouldnt get down on it, because there are so many others like myself who love it! It looks great! and I cant wait to see the new pics.

Im never happy with my sculpts, doesnt mean im down dude, far from it

sorry if i seem this way , just trouble shooting out loud.

Its not that Lee is pissed off or really unhappy. If he was that pissed or unhappy he would scrap the whole project.

An artist is hardly ever completely happy with his work because they are the ones who nitpick the most. While all of us see the pics and are amazed, the artist is much more critical of his/her own work. (her in Lee's case..... jk dude). I like where he is going with this project and i think, overall, so is Lee. Its our job to offer constructive criticism if we see anything while still being blown away (pretty hard to do, lol.)

lol Carl.

just taken some quick pics , photographed from a low angle looking slightly up for a different perspective, and the front on shot isnt quite front on, ( im **** at taking photos )

anyway hope you guys think he looks more pissed off, like i said i think it was the tree remark

Lee I think he looks plenty P***ed off mate, though you might want to angle the lower mandibles a touch...they sit too straight up when looking in the pic of the front view...Looking at your newere shots I think you've got a good handle on the placement but I hope you don't mind but I took the liberty of doctoring a pic of what I mean to better illustrate it.

that's your origianl pic

This is how I mean by "angled" it gives it a more aggressive look.

Stilli think he's looking great mate.

thats fine Mav, i may angle them slightly more in, but im reluctant to go much wider with the mandibles now, as i do not want him toooooooooo posed if that makes sense.

as i said i think im getting there slowly lol.

My 2¢----
Lee, with this sculpt, you have definitely moved into the pantheon of accomplished artists on this board. Don't worry about reworking the piece, unless you're on a deadline, let it take as long as you need to----it's gotta be right----in your eyes, and in your comfort zone. (This is the part where I've just opened myself up ) Personally, I find nothing wrong with the mandible position the way it is. I might suggest that at this point you curtail your progress posts on this project until you're almost done. You know what you're doing.....
In going for screen accuracy, why not post a P2 head photo next to yours shot at the same angle? Any questions the observer might have would be immediately answered. Speaking of which...

Simian, while you might think your observations and input to Lee are helpful, but there's a fine line between frequent input and ball busting. It's just human nature. As for your sculpt, my opinion is that the head is sloped a bit too tall, and the dred sockets are too big. They should be around 1" in dia. Those golf balls are about twice that. I don't believe anyone who sells dreds make them that large. Other than that, it's looking good, you've captured the look, can't wait to see more details. Are you using water based clay? Hat's off if you are, it's more difficult than oil, I find.

...i seem to be erking u guys left and right... do u guys feel an apology is necessary? if so please let me know. it was never my intention to bust ur balls lee. i did state earlier that i am a perfectionist and im just being as critical of ur sculpt as i am of my own because i want it to be as good as it can be. if i can point out something that u have missed then my feedback has fulfilled its purpose, hence the amount of feedback i post. to you and everyone else i ask that u do the same for me. nit pick the crap outta my updates please. to be honest i have been disappointed with the lack of input in my thread.

thank u carl for the post. i only wish u had done it in my thread back when i first posted the update. i already realized that the golf balls werent working and have since reworked the dreadholes back when lee informed me i was missing a dreadhole (thanks lee). i think your idea for lee to post a screencap along with a progress pic would be awesome and i plan to do just that in my next update. i cant say when that will be though as i have recently been stuck playing mommy to a couple of week old abandoned kittens and on top of work im finding it hard to get any sculpting done. to answer your question im using oil based clay. i am nowhere near expedient enough to work in water based.

for future reference i will try to be less critical and just stick to the "good jobs" and "looking goods."

That's cool mate, and there's no need to widen the spread of them just a little twist should do it. Just warm them up a bit before/if you do it mate as it'll stop the clay from wanting to shear with the twist. Seeing you do this almost makes me want to sculpt up anither pred

Simian, I think it's the fact that you're fairly new here that's pigging people off...I've not mentioned anything as you're still fresh in....Crits are all well and good, but most people take them better when they've come from someone who's got a body of work behind them. I'm not having a dig here but you have to understand that a fresh face offering up critique might be taken out of context. Myself I like getting peoples views on stuff bad good or indifferent.

NO apology needed Simian, I have to admit your initial "SCULPTING CONTEST " annoyed me alittle.

and its also hard to tell when people are advising or telling you what to do, as i also barely know you. Also comments youve made seemed alittle preachy and sarcastic, IE your "looks good for a stunt head" commment. which id stated already i was shying away from.

anyway as i said a page back im not going for FILM accuracy anymore, im doing as ive always done, My own take on the beasty.

i know u dont want an apology but, sorry for annoying u and any other misunderstandings. perhaps i came on too strongly. i guess im not very good at "breaking the ice" cuz this kind of thing seems to happen to me a lot. anything i say bout ur sculpt is advice lee. its ur sculpt and it will be the way u want it. i can only offer advice. i didnt mean anything by it being a stunt head. i must have overlooked u stating that it wasnt going to be a stunt head. i believe in an earlier post u said that it was prolly going to be a stunt head and that is what i was referring to. so pardon me for the misunderstanding.

i think maverick is on to something, i havent posted much but i have been here a while reading everyones posts and i guess i felt i knew all of u a little and chimed in as such. only to be met with "who the crap does this guy think he is." as i said that happens to me a lot and i usually bow out without rectifying things. i hope it to be different this time...

im also sorry that it happened in ur thread lee. it has become rather convoluted with subject matter not pertaining to ur progress. so if u would like to delete the irrelevant posts i will gladly do the same with my posts.

Alls good my end . it wouldnt be one of my threds, unless it went OT somewhere along the way hehe.
id scrap it and start over no really lee it looks ***n awesome..i think its just a matter of you becoming comfortable with your talent...no matter what you say you have a talent for this my friend...deal withit!!! and please put me on what i am sure is a long list to get one of these....pweeeze!

I agree with mav, that would make it look very pissed. I think you are very close to the end, and I must say I like it, the best P2 I have seen so far and the best sculp you have made so far. I think I want to buy one my self.

Thanks guys. Im Having a couple of days off as i need to do other stuff.

I really really cant wait to finish this so i can start what i hope will surpass my other sculpts, ie another P1 ( soley for me, and replacing my current mask )

I intend on making a resin mold for a solitary Silicone mask. but hey thats another project for now i gota kick this P2's ass into shape hehe.
