I thought i was able to edit the thread by adding context after uploading the images. Could I? How?
I haven't seen anybody making this sword, don't understand why, is it because the franchise is that bad? Or the character is too minor?
Anyway,
It is made of 7075 and 6060 aluminium flat bar stock, like my Hanzo/bride katana and BabyDoll Katana, sawed, filed and sanded to this stage. I'm about to start making the scabbard, and couldn't think a better way to make it. Any suggestion is welcome.
With some help from a Medieval Weapon's Museum employee, I was taught the name of this type of the sword is called a spadroon, with the hand guard and the finger loops being part of remanence from a older time. And at the time of the movie set in, it is still quite popular.
The finger guards should be one single piece, but in the extremally rare and limited reference images I could find on Fandom pages, it seems to be going around and in front of the shield part and jointed differently.
First time I tried Tig wielding without experience and practice, only learnt from videos, the result was two burnt fingers and one almost ruined part. Luckily, it was salvaged. The part, not the skin on my fingers.
So I was forced to give up wielding aluminium and go with mechanical means. Some twist and turns will have to do.
That about it. I 3d Printed a hilt for now, because of feeling lazy, but it deformed and I may end up making it out of wood after all.
I always feel that I will never be excel at anything because I'm too impatient, a good artist uses a tremendous amount of time on one detail and by making it perfect, the work becomes art. I can't even get through sanding the blade straight... hahaha
