post your spidey pics

CWillis13, Lots of people do ASM, but rarely do you see someone go full Andrew Garfield. You pulled off that look tremendously, and it's doubly recognizable because he spends more time without his mask than with it in the film. ;)

I hope you east-coasters have fun at NYCC. I tried and failed to get tickets to the big one in San Diego.

I got my comic book symbiote print sewn up by trophywife, don't have the lenses or soles attached yet, but here's some preliminary shots, with a Raimi suit mask thrown in for context. I like it!

Nice print Lunaman! I loves me some symbiote!
Thanks, brother! I was wondering, did you ever get pics of your symbiote after you changed out the eyes? I've got a nice pair of big ultimate/ASM2 eyes I'm preparing for this one.

That's actually a very impressive print! I love the sleek angular lines!:thumbsup
Thank you very much! I love the way it looks, too.

Thanks for the compliments Lunaman! Your symbiote suit has some really neat shading, very blended.
You're welcome, and thanks!I thought it might be too subtle when I got the print, but it turned out well. :)

Hey man, I saw you at Mega this weekend and was blown away. I few months back I was about to start an ASM build but I ended up changing to a Fett. Either way, that gave me a huge standard for Spidey costumes and there were a lot of bad ones at the Con. Then we saw you..... holy ****. Even with a lack of Webshooters you were the best Spidey I've seen let alone at the Con. And your Parker costume was spot on as well. Good job man.

Yep! did every last inch by hand for nearly 2 months. I had to take certain artistic license with the lines and borders on the arms and chest. The zig zag stitch along the top half (where the red and blue meet) seemed like a bad idea with the already limited movement in the suit so i just added a thread texture with the paint. I actually made navy blue puff paint for all of the blue hexagons.

One thing i did do that i think no other suit has, is the serger stitch to the black lines on the body:

Love it! You did a stunning job!
How is the durability on the blue puff paint when you do posses? When I did mine I had a cracking problem under the arms, it was also a little small so that defenally contributed lol

That was the same problem area I had with my MCL34N suit. I'm not sure why that is...it can't be moisture because my back and chest were drenched after the premiere and the puffy held up fine. But the armpits did suffer peeling...maybe its a friction thing. Maybe leaving that area clear of puffy is the way to go.

The veins in the hand make this picture really cool!

Got this suit from the mail today.

Any suggestions on a faceshell? I tried out my mask and it was really tight around my head.

Haha, thanks, I just noticed that. I suppose I should add that the suit doesn't come with own personal levels of creepy vascularity. Bonus. It does kind of sell the "symbiotic" skin aspect, maybe it would be cool to see dye-sub prints that include veins and the like. Might work well with some of the more intense characters like Logan or what have you.

Any suggestions on a fiber glass mask? I tried out my mask and it was really tight around my head.
That's a nice-looking Raimi print, is it a Spidey-planet kit? The colors are great.

Not sure where to direct you re: mask issues, do you just want a hard faceplate to take the pressure off your nose, like they used in the movies? AZSpidey and McLean make faceshells, I think joelei does as well. Forgive my spelling, my phone does not like forum names.

I believe it's a Fettster print (Raimi style). I saw AZSpidey's and Mclean's face shells while I was looking through the threads. Both of theirs look great. Mclean's is modeled after TASM so I'm a bit hesitant on that. I'll probably go for AZSpidey's face shell then. Couldn't find joelei's though. Yes a face plate or a mask. I tried out the mask that was part of the suit and it was so tight around my head. Wasn't comfortable at all. Thank you for the info. What did you use for your Raimi mask by the way?

EDIT: Oh never mind, I found joe lai's thread.

@Fiddlesticks, nice one, could be interresting to see this as a TASM2 suit.
Just checked it out and they do look similar. I need to see TASM sometime. Been avoiding it since I'm a big fan of the Raimi movies.

Gotcha. The brickwork and colors on it are really top notch. I think that might be one of the prints that was made using access to the original files from the movie. Great snag.

You're welcome for the info, glad you found the relevant threads.
I actually am not wearing a face shell in any of the images I've posted on the forum. I have a prominent enough nose and angular bone structure that my lips aren't usually visible, which is normally what happens when you put on a Spidey mask. I recently bought an AZSpidey shell and it's very nice, I just don't have photos of me wearing it. The shape is extremely accurate to the Raimi movies, makes my jaw a bit wider and smooths out the lines. Faceshells also good for getting your lenses to sit flat or attach with magnets (which looks best) and it keeps the elasticity of the fabric from squashing your nose or putting direct pressure on your face.
Are you sure the mask area is too tight, and it's not the neck area that's constricting you? It's common for people to not pull their mask down far enough when they first try on a spidersuit. Both my masks have a zipper in the back of the neck to make it easier to get into and out of, and I'm building my third suit the same way. Maybe you could consider adding a rear-neck zipper instead of thinking of replacing the mask, especially since attached masks look so good.

No face shell? Dang man you have the perfect head then. Yes when I put my mask on, you can see the lips and eyes. I tried it on a few more times today and I think I'm getting used to the tightness. The first time must have caught me off guard.

Are you supposed to cut out a couple eye holes on the mask? Here's a picture of me trying out the eye frames.

Only picture I have of my 2099 costume.
That's badass, optimus! You don't see that suit made very often.

Yea, and you can see in the photo that you still haven't pulled the mask down far enough, the little point that all the webs radiate outward from should sit directly between the eyes. Refer to my photo or the first several images in this thread to see what I mean as far as Web placement. You have to do this little procedure where you grab the forehead with one hand and pinch the near the chin with the other and scoot the mask down an inch at a time while tilting your head back a bit. It looks silly, but it works, and it's easier once you've cut the eye holes and are no longer blind. The mask will fit and look much better.

Yep, just measure the distance between your pupils and then mark points on either side of the center Web point and cut small "pilot holes" to see through. Once you check fit and placement you can cut them a little bigger, like the holes in a Zorro mask. You want them big enough that you can see clearly, but small enough that they don't come near the edges where the frames sit. Err on the small side, because you can always trim them bigger later, but you can't replace lycra you've cut away.
If you want, it might be a good idea to start a build thread for your Fettster print project, so you can share progress photos, ask questions and get feedback all in one place. It'll take a lot of work to finish, but it already looks amazing, and you have excellent physical shape for that version of Spidey. That suit is gonna really wow people.

WELL thank you for that huge compliment!!! Did we talk at all? Now i feel bad that i let a good fan get away. Youre the first to point out i have no web shooters, and im glad you did. Id rather have an RPF member remind me i need to buy some post haste! It took me 2 months of pure labor to get that suit finished. And im making another one due to it being too tight.

This goes out to you too bschossler

The armpits did have peeling but i blame the constant heat and friction. next time i will make the paint thinner around the pits. As for cracking that only happened on my inner elbows and on my wrists. Mind you my suit was literally sikn-tight. The next suit im making will have more slack and density.
