Possible X-wing project. Want input.

I woke up in the middle of the night and had this weird idea pop into my head. I was wondering what you guys might think about it.

The idea being--what if you took and x-wing model or toy and just split it right down the middle, vertically, from nose to tail. Then mounted one side of it to a mirror on the wall. That way it looked like a full x-wing but only half is real and the other half is the reflection. There would be no visible supports and it would take up only half the space.

What do you think of this idea? I don't know that I will ever get around to actually doing this, but I thought it was a kinda nifty idea.

Does this sound cool or totally stupid?

Yeah, I know that! It’s a common way to display model planes in flight…

Yeah, I’ve found that good ideas are good ideas. Who cares if it was original to you? You did think of it independently. Go for it!

Also, if any model gets damaged, don't throw it away. Plenty things you can do with it, like this X-wing that I salvaged.

I used to have it hanging up in a room. For Halloween 2020 (some might remember the post I made), I redid it for a Trunk or Treat event at church. This is the remade version. Although its currently put away in the closet.

Being a church event I made it church friendly. It was a sure winner.

And I found pics of the original version, which I had made back in 2007 for a city in FL Star Wars event. Every night we showed one of the 6 movies.
Even got a few 501st guys to come out one night. Good times.

Way more basic explosion. (and I failed to paint different number of red stripes on each wing. Ignore that.)

Instead of a glass mirror I would suggest a chrome sheet mirror like they sell at Walmart. Glass has a thickness before you get to the reflecting surface which would make a visible gap between the two hull halves...

You are right. I started playing around with just placing things up against a mirror to try to get a feel of it and I noticed that. Good call! (y)
