So, i played through Portal 2 for the third time today.
And as i was playing through the Testing Spheres, where Cave Johnson is constantly over the intercom, i noticed the cube that they use as a Weighted Storage Cube looks really really easy to make. So i plan to make one, i just need a little bit of help. The Edges and corners, what material would i use to go about making look close to the video game without a lot of work?

Here's the cube

Let Me know! :)

You could probably find similar metal corners of crates or luggage (think Steamer Trunks) for the straight parts angled metal.

If you want to go cheaper and lighter then chop up some plastic boxes and find some extruded plastic L channel.

alright, i was thinking about doing the length of the corner pieces with leather and painting it black. we're headed to the local hardware store tomorrow, so ill look around for corner pieces similar to the cubes.

Thanks for the help, division 6!

i posted more pictures up, just follow that link in my previous post!
its going along great, we got the material attached to the box, but we were unable to find the corner pieces. we plan to make 8 corner pieces out of wood and stretch the material over each one. we had the idea to take those glue on jewel type things and make it look like it had bolts on it, idk though. lastly, we tested one side to see what the staple would look like, but it looks too small, anyone know where or what we could use to make it look like staples?

Any help is GREATLY appreciated!

okay, so we found a substitute for the bolt looking things on the corners... THUMB TAKS! so after we make some more modifications to the corners we built. they needed to be cut like in the picture, with a really odd angle. and then we are going to stretch the leather type fabric over each corner, and attach it to each corner. then we will push the thumb taks according to the picture. But, idk what we're gonna do about the staples! still looking for some help on that!

Thanks

Hi! I'm hoping to make one myself. For the staples, I think I'm going to try looking at some flooring staples. They are pretty long but they also definitely give that heavy duty look.

Can't wait to see more!

alright, ill check it out. BTW the corners are a little bigger than expected, but what can i say, its out first time making something like this.

I plan to upload more pictures soon
