Portal 2 Atlas cosplay help

hahah sorry man. I've been playing this one close to the chest, but I guess it's time to start documenting it. I started up a thread here - http://www.therpf.com/f24/portal-2-p-body-117246/

/threadjack

I didn't want to share either until more of mine was put together but when the main part was giving me so much grief I figured it was time to ask. Also, your "puppet" style was what I was attempting but with Atlas' body being so round he would have been too far out in front of me

YESSSSSSSSS more Portal 2. I don't have a lot to contribute in the way of help, just wanted to let you know I think this rocks :thumbsup

i think if im gonna make a pbody suit i will make it where it actualy goes over my body. im 6'1 right now so ive got the hight for it. all this is getting me thinking

Looking at this you could easily do a big ball, paper mache, smoothcast outer coating or bondo, then for the rest you could use Sintra. This has me tempted to make templates for the outer armor except for the ball. I have a 3D Model of Atlas and the other one as well, pretty HD though.

I tried to do the bondo over paper mache on Version 1.0 but the bondo was so heavy and all hard to work with since it's pretty thick and leaves air pockets that have to be filled over and over again

I thought about buying two of these instead of trying to make the hemisphere's myself but I'm working about how fragil they maybe...I've messaged the ebay seller about some of my concerns...also their over all weight since I would need two of them and whether or not they would cut a hole into one of the hemispheres for me (at an additional fee if necessary) I'll keep you guys posted since there seems to be a few people watching and hoping not to run into the same issues I am. Total price estimate with shipping charges for two hemispheres (without cutting) around $135.00...sort of pricey but all the failed attempts are adding up and I'm sure I've hit this total already on my own without the professionally smooth results of just buying these two from ebay.

Have you considered trying a sign store maybe? I'm sure they have to make globe shaped signs all the time, and they'd have to be pretty tough to stand up to the weather I imagine. Maybe they have a source.

UPDATE

Found a local company that could get me two white acrylic hemispheres with a custom made hole in one for about $100 shipped...not too shabby I suppose...will keep you posted

question about boots...

I was planning on editing an iron man foot pep to get the general shape for my Atlas foot...but I was wondering...how do you guys walk in fiberglassed shoes? Most of the builds I've seen on here didn't show whether or not the shoe was made in two parts to allow for the natural bend in the foot while walking or do you just walk like you have on flippers? Lifting and planting each foot as flat as possible?

16 inch lamp post globe is only $30. I am sure you could get a 20 inch one for a good price.
My Atlas is going to be smaller than full scale. That's why I went with 16 inches. He will be big enough. lol
