Plasti-Paste and Smooth Cast 300 question!

Hey again folks!

Has anyone experimented on mixing the two of these at all? I was thinking since I have ALOT of both, but nothing like Apoxie Sculpt (or related substance), that the two combined would have the advantages of both. Granted, I'm not a chemist, but I know that Plasti-Paste is the best for making mother molds, and spreads like a fiber glass, and the resin cures fast, and hard. Since I've always found that PP takes awhile to cure, mixing a smaller amount of resin into it might help speed it up, as well as adding it strength to the mix as well. The intent is is to layer it on a spray foam head, much the same as layers of apoxie sculpt, bondo, and the others.

Thoughts? Mix amounts? Banana bread?

According to the smooth on rep that i've has dealings with all smooth on products can be mixed to combine effects. Although i'm sure it isn't this simple, he recommended experimenting. If you have the time to wait i can ask him next month when he's due to give a demo to some of my students otherwise i'd have a play with some small amounts first. I've mixed smooth cast and foam it before and the foam it pushes the smooth cast to the outer edge of the mould which is pretty cool though i doubt the plasti paste would have the same effect. I'd be tempted to try a 3:1 plasti paste to smooth cast mix and go from there. Obviously i can only speculate as to the effects but agree that the smooth on should speed up the reaction of the plasti paste. As i said i can ask mike next time i see him if you don't want to waste any, but where's the fun in that? It'd be nice to know how it goes...

I did a small experiment with it, and it came out rather interesting. 60 grams of Smooth Cast (30a-30b), and the called for 1:3 of a and b (40a:120b). The only really notable effect, was it did speed of up the setting time, and it gave it a more opaque look, instead of Plasti-pastes usual clear brown look.

Honestly, I couldn't tell a difference, mostly because I was making it a semi-thin layer applied on a sanded down spray-foam piece, so it still had some give to it, but was still quite rigid. In the areas that came out VERY thick, it seems to still have that pseudo-fibrous texture, but sanded very smooth, just like the resin. Very, VERY interesting. I'm probably going to do a 50-50 mix for the next layer, and try and take some pictures of what I have currently.

It'd be cool to see some pictures. I'm very interested as to how the 50-50 run goes. Plasti paste is meant to be a substitute for resin/fibreglass but if the cure time can be improved it could be awesome for quick builds.
