PL 1/350 refit. Which run offered more?

I understand that Polar Lights has done at least two runs of their 1/350 Enterprise refit. Does anyone know which run was best, and if do..What the particular model number of that run is?

I was considering ordering the POL808 kit, but I read a description somewhere stating that this did not have the Aboretum detail parts...I'd like to have them..

Thanks!

The second release (808) had the complete Aztec decals and a different mount. It was a metal rod support that fit into a hole in the hull. The first release had no Aztecs and kind of an odd looking setup of clear support rods.

Other than that I believe the kit parts were basically the same.

i "think" they changed the way the pylons fit to add more support didn't they ??

i could be wrong though....it has happened once :)

If you don't have the Refit kit then buy the 2nd release. If you have the first release, like I do, just get upgrade parts.
The pylons of the first kit are a little tricky from what I hear but you can make them work!!

Gonna start my Refit right after Christmas so I won't be spending Christmas money on the parts/ decals I need!!

There is also a difference in the plastic between the two runs - first run kits are apparently better for creating the Raytheon spotlight effects...

I have 2 of the newer ones in white.

The aztecing decals have been available for some time.
You can get them in several colors.
Check CultTVMan and Starship Modeler.

Aztec Dummy also makes painting masks.

I guess I got a blue version of the first run when I bought this a few years ago from Bridgetown Hobbies here in Portland. I probably should have waited since I won't be building this any time soon; I'd build the TOS version first since I've decided I now like that version more.

I hope the nacelles in the first version don't have a sagging problem. I'd also be curious to know whether anyone worked out a way to mount a first run model on a metal pole; that would look so much cleaner than the goofy transparent rods going up to the saucer section.

The blue plastic versions on the first run Round 2 kits were I believe the "White Lightning" chase kits (like 1 per every five cases if I remember correctly) for the collectors. There weren't many of those done as the vast majority were molded in white. That is why the bottom of the boxes had a little clear window in them.

The pylon design on the refit kit as I recall was quite good and sturdy. So if assembled properly, there shouldn't be any sag problems with it.

Yep, I wasn't paying attention and I got a blue chase version. Opened it up and was like "whaaaaaaat?"

Some metal strips and rod joined with Plumbers "steel" epoxy putty would be a cheaper alternative.
No welding needed.

That's a cool solution, but, yikes, 95 bucks? That's more than a whole new kit would be.

And there is still shipping to factor in to the equation, which would be substantial considering the over all size of the frame. This is why my Refit has been sitting in its box for over a year....trying to accumulate the after market items necessary when they are available and when I can afford them. The two are rarely in sync.
