Painting my 1/350 Refit like TOS?

Hey all! I was toying with the idea of painting the Polar Lights 1/350 refit with the TOS colour scheme, and was wondering about the Aztec-ing:

If you were using the TOS styling, would you Aztec it up? I’m partly considering it because it would be a fun thing to do, but honestly also as a way to avoid spending all that time applying the vinyl templates and painting the Aztec patterns in.

Well, I am gonna aztek my TOS era ship design I'm making from a 2nd 350 TOS E, called the Condor.
These are a prototype model made from the 650 AMT kit and 3d renders from my abandoned preplanning for a fancomic.

As far as the refit though, I think it would look ver bland paint like the TOS IMO. The aztek panels really give life and realism to the refit, as it isn't supposed to even have been painted at all apart from markings, unlike it being painted before the refit. But I would be happy to be proven wrong!

That’s some really great work!

If I did the TOS colour scheme, I’d also want to add lighting to the front of the nacelles to better match the aesthetic (which would require modelling the pieces at the front that are meant to be painted black/gray), which might be enough work to counteract the savings I’d get with the TOS-style.

But I suppose the worst case is that if it looks bland and unfinished, I can just paint over the TOS colour and add the Aztecing.

Actually, now I think of it, between that and the TOS paint schem it would look basically like the Phase II refit which looks like a simplified TMP refit. That would look cool.

I think that could be an interesting build. If I were doing one like that myself, I'd probably do a very subtle Aztec with variations on the grey hull color. Maybe with the muted blues, browns and greens that they did the "weathering" with on the TOS filming model. It kind of negates the purpose of not having to buy Aztec masks, but I think it would be worth it for a unique build.

Absolutely I would as long as you have the right aztec pattern to fit the era which I have in my possession if you want it?

I own my own decal manufacturing business specializing in Star Trek model decal sets, and one of the ones I make is the Aztec decals for the 350 TOS enterprise and there is a pattern that Matt Jefferies wanted to do and Did release for the hull.

Heck, I myself will have to look your stuff up whenever I finally get around to finishing my comversion of the 350 TOS into the Condor as she has aztek paneling, and I didn't wanna paint it. But that is gonna be a while.
