But I also have some bad news. Apparently these were rather hard to goldplate, and the goldplater had to find a balance between a plating that was thick enough, and a preserving the details. As a consequence, 5 coins have some imperfections in the eyes. There are some darker spots there:

So first 10 people on the list can have a perfect coin, and I'll offer the coins with the flaw on the eyes with a €5 discount. So €65 instead of €70. If people in the INT list want to choose for a discounted coin, please drop me a PM. First come, first serve for the discounted coins. People in the back-up list, please don't contact me yet!

So this is the deal for now for the people in the INT list: when you want one of the discounted coins, send me a PM as soon as posisble. I have 5 of these. After that, I'll contact the first 10 people in the list (who didn't opt for a discounted coin) to arrange payment for a perfect one. People are free to decide not to take a coin after all too, off course (or not wanting to take one with the flaw). Would be nice to let me know too, in that case. Once all people in the INT list have answered and made their choice, I'l start contact people in the backup list if there are coins left.

But of a bummer that those 5 coins have these slight flaw in the eyes. It looks a bit like "agin" and if you are planning to give the coin a wash to give it a more aged look, I'd defeintely choose for one of the discounted coins, since the flaw will not be noticable with a wash. If you want it bright and shiny, I'd go for one of the 10 perfect ones.

That's it for now. Will be sending out PM's to the INT list soon. People on the backup list: please have a bit of patience, I'll give more news about the coins that are left soon!

Yeah, I took a second look at the "flawed" ones and most of them you really have to look twice to see the imperfection. I'll plan to post pictures of each individual coin, pointing out the "flaw", so people can really decide if they want one of these or not. In most cases, it's not really the plating that's off, but it's just a little imperfection in the sculpt of the coin, causing the plating to lay a little deeper, so appearing darker. If you put a light source on it (flashlight or something) you can see that the plating is actually there. So catching the imperfection on picture is rather difficult, because a flash makes the imperfection invisible. I'll post some pics of the flawed ones tomorrow...

Sold coins will be shipped somewhere next week (probably wednsday). Second batch will go out the week after (sorry, no time to go to the postal office on a daily basis).

aaaand paid for two perfect ones.

It's been a long time coming.... June 19th 2014. Wow, only 2215 days.

Dank je/merci/thanks :)

OK, here are the pictures of the 5 ones with little flaws. Took the pictures in natural light without flash. Flaws are mainly in the eyes. I'll number them, so people can pick their choice:

Only two left... It's now up to Eurojunkman and Pascal Kurosawa to snap one up if they still want one...

There's quite a backup list, so I doubt there will be any left. If people want to give it a go themselves:

1. The coins I used are the die-cast metal checkers pieces from the Pirates of the Carribean 3 in 1 game. It has a chess, dice and a checkers game. The checkers pieces are the most accurate replica's of the Aztec coins out there. More detailed than the MR replica.
2. With a dremel, you can drill a small hole through the top (see my pictures) for making it a necklace. if you put a paperclip through the hole, it can be hanged to goldplate.
3. The issue with these coins is that there already is some kind of very durable finishing on them (to distinguish between "white" and "black" checker pieces). Most goldplaters have issues with this. I contacted at least a dozen of goldplaters and send out numerous pieces for a trial (most of the time they failed), before I got a goldplater who could actually plate them with a durable 24K gold plating.

Since these Pirates game sets are pretty heavy and only available in the US at this moment (there are a few on eBay), it way too expensive to have another set shipped to me to make more of these. I'd have to raise my price to over €100 which is not realistic anymore. If someone really wants one or more goldplated coins and can provide me with some checkers pieces from a game set, I'm willing to send them over to my goldplater to have them plated, and send them back for the price of the goldplating (about €50 a piece at this moment, but could vary) shipping back and forth to my goldplater (2 times €7,5 = €15) and shipping back to the owner of the coins (€15). Maybe someone else is even willing to do a next run of these? Always happy to collaborate (take care of drilling the holes and have them goldplated), but I'm not going to source for the checker pieces anymore...

Since I’m quite a ways down on the backup list, I took Tom’s advice and snagged a game off ebay. I am in the US but I may take you up on your offer Tom and possibly even do another run (I see a lot of people on the backup list still). Will keep everyone updated.
