Pirates of the Caribbean

Just think about the stamp.

Wouldn´t it be easier and much more cheaper to get a negative maschined on a 3d printer and cast the stamps in wax ???????

They would be all exact and you can´t destroy your final letter when something goes wrong with the hot wax.

Greets Paddy

That would be cool, if someone here could make the files needed to order such from Shapeways.......failing that......

I've been working on the Letter of Marque and the EICo box on and off for a while, and I was thinking of just getting rubber stamps made of an Old English B, and whipping up something for the cypher for a custom stamp from simonstamp.com. They do great fast affordable work. For just a few stampings for your own personal use I don't think it would have to be a metal stamp. Of course if you're making a run of the Letter, I guess the expense of metal custom made would be recoverable.

As for afixing the stamps/seals to the letter, I would advise you do the seal impressing on some non stick surface, practice, practice, and when you get as near to a perfect one as you can get, let it cool and rest--then glue it to your document.

Shylaah, good work on the stamp! You convinced me to go for that image. A 3D print is also a good idea, but could it be used to make a real wax stamp? Could it stand the pressure and heat of the hot wax?

Great! Glad you could see it!!
There are a lot of different materials Shapeway offers. But, yeah, I think that lowest priced whatever it is "black plastic" would hold up to making a wax seal. This is just a guess though on my part as I do not know what the material is nor how much heat it can take.

But Sealing wax doesn't get that hot, and you drip it onto whatever you're putting the seal on and let it cool a bit and it doesn't take but a gentle press to make the impression in the wax.

I am currently working on my own Letter of Marque. actually I am redrawing all as seen in the original Letter of Marquee to Captain Robert "William" Kidd from King William III of England.

here are some preview pictures :

I arranged the drawings with MurdocXXLs version, so you get the idea.....

Stefan, that looks absolutely great! Are you going to share your final work (really hope so ;-)? The drawings are of great quality. Really an artist's work. If also the writing will be as in the original, than this would be totally perfect.

Yes, that's the Shapeways I was referring to.

Not much I wouldn't think? Under 10$ plus postage.

I did a search for wax seal on their site and there actually were
some came up. Pretty inexpensive. Just a little disk---could make your own handle and glue it on there.

I guess I wasn't remembering correctly. Looks like the "black plastic" isn't the least expensive offering. The white stuff is. I only ever ordered on thing from here, a Return to OZ key and it was the black stuff.

Someone would have to do the artwork--I am not sure what all is required. I'm not that familiar with the process.

Thanks for the info. If they ship to Europe and I can pay with paypal, then i'm set :). Prices are indeed very low. I might contact a Belgian 3D printing company too, I think.

Actually that is a photo of the original prop from the El Capitan theater in Los Angeles. That is not my letter.

Many thanks for Info. Savvy :thumbsup
I always believed that this is an original prop, but that WIKI site does unfortunately have no information about the "origin" of that pic.

Stefan, as already said ....OUTSTANDING! Looks realy awesome so far.

>>>clip<<< By the way, do we know if the LoM from the Wiki (http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20110330130448/pirates/images/e/e7/Letters_of_Marque.jpg) is a screen used prop or replica as well? If it is a replica, who did it?

I know the origins of the image in question and I hope whoever posted it on the wiki had permission because the person who owns it plainly states on her web page: "All artwork, text and webpage design on this site is copyrighted material. No permission is granted nor implied for any other use." The image of the Letter of Marque is the background image on the web page of a lady named Liberte, that's why it's all lightened up. She does state on that web page that: "Background of this page is image from Disneyland display Letter of Marque."

Here's another picture of it.
http://www.cheryljonesphoto.com/marque.jpg

And another on flickr.com
http://www.flickr.com/photos/barrywallis/203499670/#/
That states: "A prop from Pirate's of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest at the Disney Gallery in Disneyland."

I don't think this display version is the screen used version, with the addition of that ribbon and the shape and position of the wax seals do not match this screencap from DMC that I posted earlier in this thread.

Shapeways is in the Netherlands (though I thought they were moving their HQ to New York??), and they ship world wide by UPS, and they take PayPal.

@Shylaah: Many thanks again for the infos about the Origin of the pics.

I have corrected the mistake in line 16 (thanks again for the hint). If somebody interested in the correct file, pls. let me have you PN again.

Got mine too. Thanks a lot MurdocXXL.

Still interested in Stefan Jones' version, dough. His drawings are just fantastic! Stefan, are you going to share your work eventually? (Just asking to see if I make a print and aged version of Murdoc's version, or if I wait for your version to become availabe, if it does).

Thanks to everybody for your feedback. Happy that you like it :)

One email pending which i will sent out this evening ;)

yepp, interested in Stefans GREAT version as well. Drawings are much more detailed. This is realy an outstanding work of an artist. ALL THUMPSUP!

EDIT: Do we have a template for the logo seen on the leather cover already? Are there some screenshots availbable making it possible to trace the logo?

Nice DBCooper! Mine lies here around. It's printed and aged. I have green and red seal wax, but just don't have the time to order the seals themselves :(. If I find the time to finish mine, I'll post pics here too...

I'd love to make a version with Stefan Jones graphics too, but don't know if he is going to share his work in the end. Stefan, can you let us know if we can expect your version here on the forum or not?
