Pirates of the Caribbean - On Stranger Tides review KINDA SPOILER FREE

Re: Pirates of the Caribbean - On Stranger Tides review SPOILER FREE

^You know, I honestly don't remember her telling him eigther. I just remember Black Beard saying to take the creature...yadda yadda yadda, and Phillip saying...SHE HAS A NAME!

Aye her name is Syrena which is for "sirene" of course.

Phillip pauses before he names Syrena shortly after Blackbeard says, "Pretell....do tell!"

He named her.

Like you name a Pet :lol
OH look at that fluffy cat....let's name him ....Fluffy!!!.

^Yeah, that is pretty lame. She could have easily said her name to him when he looked at her before he said Syrena. Anyhoo, I still liked the characters, enjoyed this outing and have allready decided to see the next one:)

It wasn't as good as the first movie, but better than 2 and 3. They need to stick to making self contained movies, when they tried to make 2 a cliff hanger and make people have to see 3 to finish it up that was pretty ****ty. They can have continuity between the movies, just don't do 'to be continued' crap.

I went on the ride today and they changed at least two things to go with the new movie.

I found it entertaining, though not amazing. Despite that... I'm game for another one. If nothing else it gave me an excuse to wear a pirate costume!

I went in with out great expectations since reading the terrible reviews but I was surprised how good it was. But then again, how can they mess up JACK SPARROW?
I will most definitely will see it again but not in 3D. I'm looking forward to P5, and here's hoping Penelope returns so she and Johnny can team up again... They have such chemistry together, it seems such a waste not to exploit that in a future film. ;)

I thought it was WAY better that 2 and 3.

And terrific on it's own. A good pirate movie without too much Jack.

Love to see another.

I enjoyed the movie, but not as much as the previous 3.. And from all the talk about Blackbeard being soo evil, he really wasnt.. He is just as soft a pirate as Jack is.. Davy Jones and Barbossa were much better as villians..

I have to say that I did not have to oportunity to watch the original version until now. Instead I saw the german dubbed version two times. For the first trilogy I preferred the english audio because in the german version they made Jack Sparrow talk like he was homosexual instead of being drunken combined with too much sun... (I will never understand this decision :rolleyes )

Well, for the fourth movie Disney Germany was forced to change the voice actor and now FINALLY Jack sounds drunken. In my opinion that gives the movie a huge advantage over the first three ones but the reviews here in Germany complain about the decision of swapping the voice actors. They want their homosexual captain back because that is funny, right? Strange humor...

That said I must admit that besides the new voice for Sparrow OST was sort of disappointing for me. 3D was completely pointless, Black Beard was anything but a true villain, the priest and the mermaid were nothing more but one-dimensional extras and the story itself had no arc of suspense (not sure if it's the right term ^^) at all... I loved the complete London-Escape until the point when they introduced Angelica. That was the twist when the movie ,for me, turned into a boring succession of more or less pointless dialogues.

Therefore I honestly hope that they swap the director and come up with a more exciting story for the next installment. I am too much a pirate fan to give up hope but OST is ,like robstyle said, the 4th-best of the 4 movies so far (IMO).

Saw OST in non-3D, prefer it that way.

Personally, I LOVED DMC and LOVED Davy Jones (Bill Nighy, Yarr!). The fact they emasculated the character in AWE is what ruined it for me.

I saw this movie yesterday in non-3D due to warnings of constant night shots.

While I certainly liked it more than the last two pirate movies, this film has one of the most stupidest moments I've ever seen a villain do.

Black Beard knows that he will be killed by a one-legged man. He knows that one-legged man is Barbosa. He fights Barbosa and manages to gain the upper hand. However, when Spain's army comes in, he turns around, confronts their leader, says some things about fighting him and WHOA! Barbosa stabs Black Beard from behind!

What the #*(!$?! Barbosa was still pointing his sword at Black Beard when he was down, and Black Beard just turns away from him like nothing will happen?

We saw it this morning, 11am show on a Saturday morning, best time to go, only about 20 people in the theater.

Loved every minute of it !

NOW I can finally read the prop threads !!

Agreed...

Though his ship was totally cool!

Not evil?

He was choosing pistols randomly two of which were loaded and lethal to play Russian Roulette with his daughter. And at no time was the pistol being pointed at himself!

Given the choice of him or his daughter dieing, he chose her to die.

He incinerated people regularly with his ship.

He staked out a Mermaid to die horribly in the sun, baking like a fish on a hot rock.

What movie did you two watch?

I finally saw it last night. Loved it. Felt very much like an Indiana Jones movie - finding smaller macguffins that lead to a bigger macguffin with a supernatural villain demise for the climax. Bring on Pirates 5!

Here's my ranking of the movies:

1. The Curse of the Black Pearl - hey it's the first adventure with Captains Jack and Barbossa. Usually nothing beats the original.
2. On Stranger Tides - Felt like watching Raiders of the Lost Ark - including the super natural climax at the end. Loved the simpler story, the innuendos, and the new characters.
3. At World's End - definitely the most epic in terms of locales and effects, but more isn't always better.
4. Dead Man's Chest - This one feels like the Temple of Doom episode of this series. Some really gross parts (i.e. crow pecking at a guy's eyeball) peppered with some outlandish humour and juvenile performance by Captain Jack (just like Willie Scott). I didn't like it that much at first, but it has grown on me with each subsequent viewing. Still the weakest in the series though. But, Davy Jones was a highlight.

"well, technically, he saved you. so maybe he's been redeemed"

--> a tongue-in cheek star wars reference? (ROTJ) :lol

Well....
He did later state that he knew which pistols were loaded, whether he was telling the truth or not remains a mystery..He probably had a bit of doubt when Jack told him that she was lying about him being her father....Plus, its not like they were together their entire lives, he practically just met her

Again, he chose to save himself rather than someone who recently showed up and claimed to be his daughter

We only know of 1 person he incinerated

Its possible he left her there just incase they needed another tear, not to mention the fact that mermaids themselves are brutal killers, so that negates that

What movie did you two watch?

So was he a bad person, yes...was he an "Evil" person, not by a long shot
