Pirates of the Caribbean - On Stranger Tides review KINDA SPOILER FREE

Re: Pirates of the Caribbean - On Stranger Tides review SPOILER FREE

Those were my thoughts as well, but when On Stranger Tides was first announced the prevalent rumor was that it was a prequel. *shrug*

I'm almost certain they'll release it in 2D as well. There are a lot of us movie buffs that don't like 3D, don't care about 3D, can't watch 3D, and/or consider 3D nothing more than a flawed gimmick, and I'd guess Disney doesn't want to lose out on an opportunity to get our box office dollars.

Yeah, but without 3D, I have no real reason to go to the theater. The size of the picture and surround sound aren't enough for me to really care unless I have someone to go with who really wants to see the film.

That's pretty much true across the board, though. I almost never go to the theater anymore.

^ That's reason enough, and I'm sure there are lots of people who share your opinion. With increasing ticket prices and a noticeable increase over the last several years in the amount of audience members who have apparently forgotten (or never learned) how to behave properly in a movie theater, I find myself going less every year as well despite the fact that I still enjoy seeing certain films on the big screen.

Yeah, I mean, i enjoy watching films on the big screen, but the cost and the other downsides just make it too much of a pain. I'll just netflix it.

Being a costumer I was paying close attention to some of the unanswered questions about Jack's costume

You should grab the latest issue of "Entertainment Weekly" magazine. It has a section with a good full page shot of Jack from about the waist up and talks about additions to his costume and makeup for the movie.

My girlfriend is obsessed with this series, glad to know the movie wasn't a total bust. actually looking forward to watching it now, was scared it may have just been one of those sequels for money rather than the storyline itself.

Re: Pirates of the Caribbean - On Stranger Tides review SPOILER FREE

I kind of wonder how that rumor got started?

End of Pirates 3 was "We're going to look for the Fountain of Youth."

Plot of Pirates 4 is "We are looking for the Fountain of Youth + some really good extras"

Don't see how that could be construed as anything but a sequel. But I tell you I am excited to see this come out.

Probably because Rush appears to be wearing a Naval uniform in the trailers for the 4th one. So people figured it takes place before he becomes a pirate. Of course it could always just be a disguise.

ummm... the trailers show he has a peg-leg. So, I'm assuming this is post POTC 3.

Well Pirates of the Caribbean - On Stranger Tides hasn't even hit the theaters and I've already seen it twice.

Last night was the Hot Topics Pirate Fan Da event out at Hollywood and Highland followed by yet another Sneak Preview of On Stranger Tides at the El Capitan theater. For some strange reason the 3D was much better this time around and it was probably related to where we were sitting. 2nd time was more center of the theater and the lighting was not as dark.

The other fun part was seeing it completely geared up as Captain Jack Sparrow with my fellow Brethren! We got the best seats in the house whilst the rest of the "non-pirates" sat elsewhere! It pays to love piracy, savvy?

The rest of the movie was great seeing it the second time around too. Things that I missed were answered and things I never saw before became more prevalent. I guess it pays to be more in tuned with the story line rather than the costume.

Loved it even more now and truly say that this viewing was 5 / 5 because of the improvement of the 3D! More depth of field effects and of course the swords coming out at you....!!!

Well I guess that is it for a follow up! I can't wait to see this move on Thursday at 12:01 am at the El Capitan yet AGAIN! The anticipation of what happens in this movie is killing me!!! Oh wait............never mind!

It's funny how we prop and costume fans sometimes get so caught up in examining what's on screen that we forget to watch the movie. :D

Yes! Alot of mental notes to myself regarding the back of the wig....so much that when we got out of the theater I "made a note to self!"

I guess you're having a very good time the last few days:) (Good to know)

Re: Pirates of the Caribbean - On Stranger Tides review SPOILER FREE

Also lucky enough to have seen a advanced screening of this film in LA.

Honestly, you could probably survive w/o seeing it in 3D,
Still on the fence about that, as a few of the 3D scenes were very decent.

In regards to a few previous comments, yes this story picks up after At Worlds End.

As far as Barbossa goes,
You really cant comment on his character in this one w/o giving anything away.

There is some small love line story telling going on, but its very slight compared to the original 3 films.

There were a few places that felt a little slow,
But over all liked it enough that were planning on seeing it again this Friday.

Anxious to hear what you all think of Blackbeards ship Queen Anns Revenge, this was one of my favorite things from the film.

Aint' it cool news really bashed it. Badly.

Re: Pirates of the Caribbean - On Stranger Tides review SPOILER FREE

Empire gives it 2 Stars. Many more scathing reviews around the web. So happy I have a couple of free tickets to this one, otherwise I would pass based off of what I have read.

That is because every bad review that I have read compares it to the first three movies. Once again approach this movie as a stand alone "NEW" pirates movie and you will enjoy it.

Re: Pirates of the Caribbean - On Stranger Tides review SPOILER FREE

^I really am hoping your right. One thing that has been a constant in the reviews I have read though is that the material and dialog are not good at all, and that Depp's performance along with Rush's are phoned in, not to mention McShane. Really a shame, but I would LOVE to be proven wrong, especially since I am taking my wife to see this on Friday. I will ultimaely have a much more enjoyable night (at least after the movie-GIDDY-UP!) if the movie is watchable.
