PIH - Blade Runner PKD Hero Deckard's Blaster

Excellent, Jason! The production photos seem to support the notion that the prop, as originally constructed, had a flat-head screw instead of the Weaver knob. I'm sure lots of folks suspected this - especially since the stunt castings have the screw - but it was nice to see...

Wow! Where have those "1981" shots been all this time. :lol

Blade Runner Mafia must have suppressed them...

The 1981 shots also show the LEDs on the sides of the magazine illuminated, but the laser sight dark. Not definitive, perhaps, but it seems to add weight to the argument that the sight wasn't wired to light up.

I restored the 1981 photos a little... I left the "Original Prop Blog" logo on them to identify whose pics they are. If that is not all right let me know and I'll take them down.

No problem at all from my standpoint. I only obtained permission from Profiles to host them on my site (I almost never watermark anything), but in my opinion discussion and analysis is welcome.

The existence of the photos were kind of mentioned in passing in a phone conversation, and I was like "you've got to send those to me"... :)

I thought some here might like to see these - glad you enjoy them.

Thanks,

Jason

Thanks for sharing those Jason. It is great to see the condition of the gun when it first started filming. I also notice that there are no white wires running to the site rod. Very interesting.

This is an awesome piece and auction. Truly a seminal moment in the history of our hobby, and likely the last time this piece will be for sale for perhaps another 30+ years.

Though the white wire does show in the film, correct? Interesting indeed!

The white wires can be seen just before Deckard's hand is pulled through the wall in Sebastian's apartment, and then in a following scene when he drops the gun from the bookcase the wires are not there.

There is also debate as to whether the green LED's are lit in the drop scene or not. That could mean that the white wires were pulled out from inside the cylinder cover to possibly repair the LED's or to help clear the cylinder and help it stay closed.

Just in case any one is interested, here's the original link to the auction info.:

It look me a while to figure out exactly where the green LEDs were located. They're actually on the left side of the blaster, on either end of "site" or laser pointer. I don't see them lit up in the reference photos posted, but who knows. One thing is for sure, that's got to be one heavy pistol!

Wow, it's great that this beautiful prop is back in the news.
Great new reference pix.
