Photo Negative Film Help

All,

Does anybody have any experience working with or making props with or from photo negative "like" material? I would like to create a few props from a semi opaque material sepia or blue(ish) in color most closely resembling photo negatives or microfiche. The sizes I am planning on are not conducive to traditional photo negatives so shooting and developing 35mm is not really an option so I am looking for some creative solutions.

I have thought about sepia colored transparencies, and while I can find some colors, I can't find sepia. I also considered printing on velum but comes out too paper like. I would prefer to print with a laser printer but inkjet is also an option. Does anybody have any suggestions?

I have a buddy that used to develop his own pictures in his basement, I'll see if he has any suggestions as he worked closely with a number of photography/film shops around the Chicagoland area. What specific "film" are you looking to replicate?

Thanks for the help. Anything that replicates the look and feel of negatives. I could also create digital files and submit them for conversion to microfiche or microfilm I guess, if that is still a service... That might also work. Really what I want is to be able to laser print to a 8.5 x 11 sheet of colored film and have it look and feel sort of like these types of film. More about the aesthetics in this case.

I wonder if transparency film could be stained with alcohol based inks to create a similar look? And then print over the newly colored sheets? Anyway thanks for your help.

Color printing on overhead transparency film should be do-able by a local copy shop.
