Giving it a go..
* If someone recast the armor from an Pepakura maker who is the recaster recasting? The 3D modeler or the builder of the themplate?
This is for a large deal just ethics and will vary per project.
Did someone print and build a pepakura file with just a bit of smoothing/sanding. Or did they poor their heart and soul into it, and create a piece of art with the pepakura as just the framework.
* The builder of the Pepapakura files can he cast moulds for to sell the armor as his own. How is this consider in according to the existing RPF rules... Its from an existing themeplate, but still its the builder who assembled him.. but still from a themplate made by the 3D Artist?
I guess the same answer as the first one.
And again, never really clear cut, and more about ethics.
* In Regards of the 3D modelar can they, base their design of any other creations. How is this according to the existing rules? What if a 3D modelar copy an Fanmade replica made by an RPF member then what? Then what if it is from an licenced peice.
Thats measuring with two standards.
If you use licenced work (photos, artwork, replicas) you call it 'using reference' yet if a 3D modeler does the same, its called 'copying'?
* Why do we differenciate from Screen used replica recast, vs recast of fan made replica or licensed replicas? If someone recast a OXMOX Ironman.. Is that ok? If that is ok, how does it differenciate from Fanmade replica that is beeing recast. And what about pepakura? Vise versa...
I think the only difference there, is that the risk at the lawsuit you will find yourself involved with, is a lot higher with the copy of the actual replica.
Thus people tend to only do the 'grey area' thing, and sell copies of fan made props/costumes.
* How do we define the difference in modifying / resculping existing licenced props or fan made props vs 3D pepakura files themeplate?
By using your eyes?
You, I and everyone else shouldnt have ANY issues spotting if something is merely a sanded pep model recast, or the mona lisa sculpted in bondo and fiberglas on top of a pepakura model.
* How is the 3D file maker protected against thieft and reproduction of files.
By not putting them online in the first place.
And ethics of the people involved in cosplay/fanbased prop builders/modelers.
But its a bit of a moot point.
Again, copyright isnt the issue debated here. Thats a grey area we should keep away from this subject.
Merely crediting who did what, and (if a ton of money is made, which rarely happens) maybe try and shoot the pep modeler a pat on the back in any shape or form, thats all everyone seems to be talking about.
But again. Its all ethics/personality. Based on the work you did, and if that means the pep model is only a tiny or big part of the final work created.
* How do we protect the intrest of those who dedicate allot of work, time and money into making props especially in regards of Pepakura?
- By saying thank you
- By telling people how their work was a part in your creation.
- By not being an ass, and realising their work is just as artistic as the real life copying/creative reproduction that happens in (non pep) projects such as your own
And yes..that last point was tongue in cheek..:lol
* Can we also get definission of difference in SCULPTING and Pepepakura.. I still se people say they sculpted it by hand but they bondo it by hand not sculpted.. I wish to have clear definisssion of the different terminology.
Both are sculpting.
Pepakura is just a crude form, which you can use as a basis for finer and more detailed sculpting in another medium.
