Hi Guys ,has anyone done any helmets, like Alan Sinclair's(wizard of flight) Boba Fett templates?Look on the Dented Helmet for info,i'm not sure if i can post a link to another site.
Okay so it's not strictley Pepakura, but it doe's seem to be a lot easier(i've made 2).i also used the basic templates to make a comic Judge Dredd Helmet .

Can this meathod be more widley used to avoid all the tabs/bending/cutting?
If anyone can do this,i can build more stuff ,then my son thinks i'm even cooler:lol:lol:lol:lol

I've seen the helmet you are talking about, well the templates :) It's basically a cardboard base to resin and fibreglass over that you are talking about right? Making your own instead of using 3D models and pepakura.

I have just done this myself for a costume I am wearing to a contest this weekend (so photos when I get back, I've kept it quiet so far I should do so for another few days) and really liked it. Not using a model means the curved and flat sections could be done as per the original.

I made the templates in paper and rejigged them multiple times before transferring them to manila folders (the dark brown kind, seems to soak epoxy resin really nicely) and resining them from the outside then inside, then I made a mix of expoy and filling powder until it made a paste and used that instead of bondo on the outside.
Then I did two thin layers of FG on the inside, letting the matting get to near gel stage so I could really thin it out to reduce bulk. There are a few weak spots I'll need to fix when I get back though.

I used it to make a really complex curved shape as well as a really nice flat geometric shape.

I liked it better than the other options I had as there was no need for mold making (I don't plan on producing any more of these things so it would be a waste) and the complex curve was easiest achieved in the card.

Be aware when dremeling the edges smooth that it will smell like burning wood as the card will burn with the friction ;) No worries on fire but it is a bit disconcerting when you forget.

You can alter a setting in pepacura to not make fold lines in areas of a certain degree allowing for models that use many folds to make a curve not print the fold line.

id like to see the templates and a finished one if you could. anything to give me an idea of how to tackle anything pep related peaks my interest, im still determining if this is a route i would like to puruse.

There are plenty of build threads using various templates over at thedentedhelmet.com with lots of pics and such, if boba fett is what you are after.

Alan Sinclair's(wizard of flight) Boba Fett templates

are easily obtainable there? i just want to see the templates and someone using them for a build, not spend all day searching through others that arent that one.

UPDATE:
its not easily obtainable if you arent a member there. "doing a search" will not work unless you register at thedentedhelmet. im not a very big starwars fan, so its not worth it to me to join a site just to see a different approach to pep.

for those of you who have or may the same questions about this helmet and these templates that would like answers other than "do a search", here's a build/walk through on instructables.

and a really extensive one here
http://www.thedentedhelmet.com/showthread.php/24821-AntMan-s-Second-Cardboard-Scratch-Build

and for you boba fett fans, here's templates and tutorials i did scrounge up on thedentedhelmet.

i know i saw around here someone made a rocketeer helmet out of cardboard, but that was made entirely different than this. 1/16" cardboard looks like it might be a decent alternative to card stock, after i start/finish my pep rocketeer helmet using the templates i already printed on cardstock(i think rundowns), i'll try 1/16 cardboard on another version of the rocketeer helmet(when dungbeetle's is finished). being new to the process of pep, and having nothing under my belt made from it, it would be a nice learning experience to try both materials out. good call man.

i would like to know what this "basic" helmet was i stumbled across that was able to make a judge dredd helmet from.

They aren't that hard to find...
go to the wiki Star Wars Costume Wiki There's a link to "templates" about half way down the sidebar.

Incidentally if you want to do the equivalent of the WOF templates with a standard Pepakura template you can just use heavier card and not worry about cutting out the tabs...
