Been playing with the idea of making the motor mount plate from 1/4" sheet metal and then have the tabs bent - as opposed to having to weld the plate. The original is an aluminum casting which makes it difficult to replicate.

That's the way to do it! And it will be way less expensive to produce that way, you can get it knocked out with a laser or plasma no problem
