Pee-Wee's Big Adventure Bike

Do you mean the Delta Rocket Rays? ..
As for the Super Rocket Rays (the one that the Pee Wee bike actually had), those tend to go for way more. Low end is over $200. High end I've seen them listed for $500, but I doubt they actually sold for that.
Oops, I had tiger sirens on the brain .. I meant the Delta lights (Super Rocket Ray). I guess I'll keep watching to try to find one closer to $100 - $200 then.

Does anyone Know if the fins on the rocket light taper in width from front to back? Some of the pics ive seen look tapered to me.

Hi Dmarks, I think it's an optical illusion, they're made from 1/4" transparent red lexan or plexiglass and if you tapered them, you'd have to re-polish the sides and it wouldn't look as good as the factory finish, plus I don't think the prop guys or who ever built the bikes would take the pains of doing that.
I slow stepped the Blu-ray and they don't look tapered to me.
I see what you mean in the close up when he spins the propeller it looks like they have a seam in the middle like it was glued together and it does look tapered, but it may be the low angle of the camera, I don't know, I guess if you feel industrious, you can make it however you want.

Damn Billy. Massive props on those. They look great. Are they fiberglass?

Also, what did you end up using for the chrome parts? I'm thoroughly digging the indention at the end of each side.

Thanks guys, Yes, they're fiberglass, my dad, brother and I made them from scratch, from the foam plugs to the molds to the body and paint work, with no prior fiberglass experience, but we all have hot rods and classic cars that we restored ourselves and my brother and I have been collecting and restoring old Schwinns for years.

Damn man, well there is a wealth of talent there, especially if you had no fiberglass experience before. My only fiberglass experience was patching cracked spots before, but certainly never built any pieces like that from scratch. I'm actually planning to start sculpting my bags this weekend. You may have inspired me to attempt fiberglass after all.

The chrome is just grooves and ridges sanded in the plug and instead of chrome tape, we painted them with chrome paint, I wanted them to look as close to Pee-wee's as possible, they did turn out very nice, but I'll warn you it's a pretty daunting task to say the least.

Great job on the sculpt. I honestly thought you bent some metal pieces to form that section. The chrome paint looks rather convincing too. What brand of paint did you use for the chrome? I've been looking for some good chrome paint, but most ends up just looking silver.

It's called "LIQUID CHROME", from the Eastwood automotive company, it's the most reflective chrome paint I've seen, it beats rattle can chrome all to Hell, but it's tricky to spray, it comes in a bottle, takes multiple steps and you have to have a HVLP spray gun, air compressor and/or an airbrush to get the best effect.

Hey Billy, thanks for the info. Sounds like it may be a bit more involved than I have the the ability to do with the tools I have. I've been thinking about investing in a wet chrome kit soon, so I may cast my grill part separately & just chrome it individually. If it doesn't go well, I'll look into the set up you mentioned.

Yeah, if you're talking about Silver Nitrate process they use for mirrors, that would be too cool, I seen some videos on You tube where they spray that on and wash with it with water and it instantly turns to chrome or mirror like finish, that's amazing, and making a separate grille piece is a good idea too.

Yeah, the silver nitrate spray is exactly what I'm talking about. Seems (at least from the videos) to be a very simple process, & for $200-300 I could get a decent amount of parts rechromed. I'm sure the first batch will be trial & error, but hopefully it will turn out well. I'll let you know how it works out once I get around to working on that part.

This is an awesome/yet ridiculously long thread and I don't have time right now to read the whole thing. I just wanted to ask if there are any outstanding questions. I assume within 81 pages you guys pretty much know it all! HOWEVER, friday Jan. 31, 2014 I will have one of the bikes in my possession for the night. I will be taking pictures of the bike, but will take requested pictures if you guys get to me in time. I am borrowing the bike from the owner to bring to a screening of the film in New Hampshire. So if anyone of you are New Englanders you can also message me for information. My best!

Sorry not a movie bike, by a loooooooooooooong shot. If it were a real movie bike i would not be lending it out or taking it places.
Thanks posting tough.
Billy baloney's bags are awesome, great job
