Here's some trivia from IMB :

Approximately 10 to 12 bicycles were built for the movie by the Pedal Pusher Bike Shop in Newport Beach CA; a shop that specialized in vintage and classic bicycles and parts. They were offered $10,000 and no screen credit or screen credit only. The shop chose the money. The bike shop had an autographed 8x10 glossy of Paul Reubens that said "To Mike at Pedal Pusher: 'Arrrrgggg!' From Pee Wee Herman."

I wonder where all the bikes ended up?

Paul Reubens has two of them; I think he loaned one to the Smithsonian and the other to The Hollywood Museum. There's also one at The Bicycle Museum of America in rural Ohio. As for the rest, I'm guessing Francis Buxton has them stashed somewhere.

Hey Jack, that's too bad you had the Italian siren and didn't get a mold of it?, that really is a D'oh moment , not that I'm rubbing it in, I wish they would send the Hollywood museum bike on a national tour, I 'd like to see it and get some pics of it!

The Volo auto museum in Illinois claims to have a screen used bike, so I went to look at it, and I have my doubts, there's too many things on it that doesn't look right, I took a bunch of pics, I 'm pretty sure it's someone's replica because I saw pics online of it for sell at the Portland Indiana bicycle show, I actually was using it for reference on my bike before I knew better, does anyone here know anything about it?

The Volo museum bike looks fake, i agree, most the stuff there is bad replicas. You can tell by the bags and some of the accessories.
There was the bike that went to auction his summer it was a real movie bike. It may have been purchased by a private party.
I believe about 5 bikes were pedal pusher bikes and the rest were dummies built for special shots. I think we have counted like 6 different bikes from screen shots.

Hey guys, these are some of the pieces I've been working on, I figured I'd post them for some of the newer guys like myself to show that a lot of the pieces can be made from materials at lowes, I'm building More of an idealized bike, trying to use as little chrome tape as possible, the spinners
And chain guard were cut out of 18 gage weld steel using just regular tin snips, the top Of the guard is just a 3/4 by1/8 steel bar bent with large pliers, the louvres for the center skirt we'd cuff out of a 1" by1/4" aluminum bar using a grinder, hope this helps someone, happy new year!

Finally I get to get back on here. Two weeks without a computer is way too long.

I just got back my brackets for mounting the tiger siren from my machine shop and they turned out great!!

I took a couple liberties with them, mainly by adding a grill for the speaker and making it look nice. The originals were so crappy that I had to make these look nice.

All of it is laser cut out of stainless steel. The base plate has been sand blasted to make paint adhere better and the bracket has been left natural so it will be nice and shiny next to the gooseneck. Needless to say I couldn't be happier.

I do have a couple extras if anyone is interested.

Nice job on those parts. Are the spinner discs 8"? I like your aluminum grills for the frame guard, they have the right kind of curve to them. So many replicas have straight bars there, it drives me crazy.

Ruddigger they are 8", painted one up like the movie bike and one more like what I think they were going for, can't decide which on to go with, haven't touched up either since I'm not sure which I'll use. What do u guys think?

Well, I'm a purist. But the real answer is to go with whatever makes you happiest. :thumbsup

I also thought I'd help out any one planing on using an older dx with rear facing drop outs, with these bikes the fender supports are attached to the axel, this makes hanging ur skirt guards and saddle bags difficult since the fender support have to be removed when the tire is placed on and off. The movie Dxs with there downward dropouts have a separate place to attach the fender supports, and since they are stable skirt guard and saddle bag attachment are made easier. By slightly shortening the upright fender support and drilling a hole slightly above the dropout(carful yo make it high enough not to interfere whith the axl nuts) you can attach the fender to the frame just like the later dxs, I included a pic, haven't fine tuned it yet but you'll get the jist

Hopefully that wheel position works with your chain length and is centered in your fenders, you don't have a lot of room for adjustment anymore.

Hey Guys, I have been away for a while. Life has a way of getting in the way of my hobbies Unfortunately after painting my bicycle with paint from vintageschwinn.com, it started to rust under the paint that never cured...Apparently they don't use hardener in their custom paint. I don't recommend you buy from them... anyway, two steps forward one back. I had to strip off my paint and start over... Getting ready to repaint my frame... I was also able to get some progress made on my saddle bags over the holiday break from work. Abe said I have to finish my replica this year so I think that's a good new years resolution... lol... A lot of sanding and bondo but im almost done with them...

Also in case anyone is interested, I am selling off all my extras as I get to them. Not sure why but I collected two sets of everything along the way but I have decided I don't need the second set. I have listed my aluminum chain guard and front spinners. They will also come with the vinyl decals to finish everything off...

Thought of that! I mounted the fender and tire as far back as can be on purpose, and still allow me room to slide on the tire, then pushed the tire forward all the way, it clears at any point you can mount it, took a lot of fine tuning, again one of the problems using a 41 dx, I even checked to make sure it cleared my flaps, it's not perfect but this is my first replica of anything, by the way Edward h those parts are awesome, wish I had ur means and ability! Nice work brother.

you have a good start Cracker 302, but I think it's a little big, and you don't have quite a big enough arch or "angle" in the back, looks like you need to trim it back to the third feather tip on your tank and arc it a little more, the bottom looks good but may need a little trimming also.
here's a pic of my bike at the same stage, I'm not saying mine's correct, but it looks good to me.
