Pee-Wee's Big Adventure Bike

I really don't think so. Pee-wee and Dottie jokingly refer to it as such at the drive-in. I don't think it is ever uttered before that. I guess technically the X-1 is the movie-within-a-movie bike, but when it comes to this thread we shouldn't be splitting hairs. :)

I like the idea of a custom headbadge but i think im still going to go with the planes and trains on my bike... I posted this a while back but just since we are on the topic. The one on the screen used X1 is bare aluminum but i left the recesses gold for some contrast.

second part. encase foam in fiberglass resin..two or three coats for thickness.once hardend knock of any high spots with sandpaper and so your putty spreader wont snag. smooth nice thin tights of bondo over all. the rounded edges will be a little tough..once it just starts to set up. knock down all the ridges with 36 then 150 sandpaper.

continue encasing in bondo..sand it down smooth with sanding blocks. once you have the filler and shape down. wipe down and blow off..now encase the entire thing in one more nice smooth coat of fiberglass resin so it looks almost like a egg.

Looks pretty good man.. Im at the bondo stage myself... Been there for a while because of my lack of enthusiam about sanding.

thanks again..i had a extremely slow day at work so i bit the bullet and sanded away..need to touch up a few spots on side cases and soon im ready for paint.

Great sculpting KXAZBug -
I don't know if it's been discussed, but when someone gets done sculpting a set of saddlebags and top case that really seem close to spot on, is there a chance we could cooperatively have a run vacu-formed out of white glossy ABS?
It seems like it would be more durable and lighter and closer to the screen bags.
We could also vacu-form tanks while we're at it.
It seems strange that a dozen of us might end up independently sculpting this stuff from scratch when one really nice sculpt could be duped for all.

Are the real ones look Vacu-formed or Fiberglass? I couldn't tell for sure from the latest museum pics.

Maybe a sweatshop of stormtroopers could do the vacu-forming.

24 Hours Of Le PeeWee Build

I found out on Friday at noon that the Alamo Drafthouse here in Austin was having a bike-rally screening of Pee Wee's Big Adventure Saturday at 7pm.

So I decided to build a 24 hour rat-rod 'Satan's Helper' bike with all the parts I have in buckets in the shed.

FRIDAY:

Started with my $20 frame.

Scrubbed the frame with WD40 and 00 steel wool, then wiped clean and turtle waxed.
Added 24" shorty Wald BMX fork, Schwinn cruiser crank with MAG sprocket, Schwinn bearings and seatpost clamp.

Wald seatpost, Schwinn stem, Prewar Shelby wide Handlebars ($2 and rusty!), Rear heavy duty CMC wheel with vintage Indian Head blackwall Lightning Dart rear tire, Front heavy duty rim from a 60s Huffy Tandem, Brickwall Swallow front tire, Schwinn pedals.

SATURDAY:
Mesinger Saddle, New chain, aluminum kickstand, Tiger Siren:

I built a simple rear rack and twin-fin setup with scrap wood and plexiglass. I actually spent five hours on Friday night building a design that went nowhere and ended in disaster. I woke up Saturday morning with this in my head:

I fixed up my 1975 Eisentraut with siren, spinners, bells and whistles for my wife Sarah to ride:

I broke a fin off kicking my leg over after my first test ride, so I added extra screws and made all of them deeper:

Creebobby if i had the ability to make copies i would, i cant say mine are dead on exact ( hence the Pee wee style ) but i got them as close as possible. these are not really all that heavy but they do add weight (this bike is HEAVY)..i sort of looked into a way to make molds to make fiberglass copies (looked like a lot of $ to do it right). the problem with the coated foam is it is possible with a hit to crack or dent them. a abs copy would be more durable and lightweight..if you wiped out with these a lot of work is lost. Abelugos cases from his pictures and having seen his top notch work in hand are probally the most correct..but still until someone can actually pull a mold from the originals its just the best we can do.

haha..i jus saw the satans helpers plate..me and my friends made simple ones once that said satans helpers bike gang and had them on backs of bikes..people was like whos the satans helpers?

also the top case material looked like it was thicker fiberglass with a gel coat, the sidecases looked to be about a 1/8 inch thick and out of a smooth texture light grey material? and the sidecase on museum bike didnt open..i wonder if just the one for the chain scene did? i could of incorporated a opening hinge in mine but then figured it wasnt likely id be doing a big adventure chain skit with it.. and plus its not like those animitronic clowns are easy to find.

Finally painted my bike. For anyone thinking of painting, make sure you put plastic on the floors and cover anything else from the spray mist. Take the extra moments to prep correctly. Or you will be like me and cleaning your garage floor. The bike looks good but still needs to dry. I am still debating the clear coat. Primed my springer forks. Time to paint my tank, fenders. This is a lot of work.

I did that! But I even put down tarps and plastic. Everything around the radius of the bike was slightly red. Good thing for power washers!
