That is great so far, the little bike is going to be awesome.. I was wondering about yesterday, you have a tight deadline.

Are you guys matching the badges on both sides? Mine are similar to Ryan's with the tape, but we were discussing how they need to curve on the back to form fit the tank, In fact I was looking through my photos and I think I have one were it looks like the badge forms to the tank a bit.

BTW i changed the shape on the left side tank, I based on the old ebay photos of the Ohio Museum bike.

Jack you got bare metal boxes?? all the ones I got were powder coated and some of them had bad orange peel that I had to remove then paint.

Yes, fortunately they came in bare aluminum. Removing powder coat is no fun. Below is a photo of my bike about a month after I got it. When I bought it the frame was covered in green powder coat. I initially tried to use chemical stripper but it was messy and had little impact. I finally threw in the towel and paid to have it media blasted.

Ed: Thanks, those renderings look really cool, but I think you made the right decision on going with the (cheaper) screen accurate look. That's one good thing about this project, if something looks kind of janky, it doesn't matter, because so did the original.

KansasJack: She-wee Herman, that's pretty funny. Hopefully she likes it. It's original paint, and it's a bit dented and scratched, but there's no time to repaint it.

Abe: Yeah, It's gonna be a close finish on this one. I've started making the tank out of MDF, wish I had a vaccuforming machine. As for the tank badges, I made mine pretty much identical for both sides. I know the shapes differ on the Hollywood bike, but I'm not too concerned about that. I didn't end up matching the contour of the tank on these badges anyway, they're sort of a test run to see how well the chrome tape wrapped around the shape. The edges are a little rough, but for the most part it turned out good. I may make another set.

I spent a couple hours on the Pee-wee Jr. bike today. I think it's a pretty good start for only one day of work. A quick trip to the local bike shop got me a springer and some Kenda whitewalls and tubes. i also got some handlebars, but I don't have a gooseneck yet.

I also got a Bendix redband 2 speed kickback hub. I dropped it off at the bike shop to get modified, and laced to some heavy duty wheels. Should make going up hills with this thing a lot easier.
 
In the original press packet for the movie it talks about about Pee Wee's family. According to it he had a sister named Hermione Herman. Maybe that was her bike!

I finished fabricating the tank for the Pee-wee Jr. bike. It's made from MDF and bondo. I started with two pieces of MDF, cut to the shape of the bike, one slightly smaller then the other. Then did the same with the other side.

Apply copious amounts of bondo.

Sand, spot putty, sand some more.

All thats left is to make a mounting bracket, and paint. Total time spent, about 2 hours.

Great job, now if you only had a vacuum form machine!!

Lost casket, Kansas Jack has some extra boxes, I might have on or two extras if he sold his already, but ask him first.
I've got extra rear bag trim rings. I've only got 3 extra sets left.

digging the mini x1! great job! ive been working away on my side bags, reshaped front sections cut out foam trimmed and i hot glued then glassed over 1/4 vaccume hose for the ribs to be covered in chrome tape when finished..also got my led kit to wire up the tailights..have to reattach the wood backs cover them in a few more coats of resin and ready to paint

What led kit are you using? I thought it might be fun to rig up working turn signals using the black box buttons for right and left. I know nothing about scratch-built electronics though, especially when it comes time to find a power source for 12v or 24v lights.

Those side bags are looking really nice. Great work on the chrome grill area...
 
i got a 9v powered 10 led kit off ebay..cheap. im not sure on how to make them actually turn as signals?, maybe get a actual bike turn signal kit and gut it.. i just wanted mine to light up as we go on group rides and aside from my rocket ray in the front my bike is hard to see at night.. itll give it a cool glow from behind now.
 
that would work but i think the leds are on a circuit panel in it, not sure if you could cut that in half. it cost 8 bucks for the leds with battery box and on off switch..just tell him you want the wired to be brighter as he said he puts a differant resister in. look up led glowing eyes on ebay..
 
the ones i initially got are to dim and he suggested that, ill post up some install and lighted pics when they arrive.
 
I bought a bundle of LEDs on ebay and all of them are flashing... All you would have to do is wire them into your green and red push switches. The ones i bought are 12V but are pretty bright on a simple 9V battery.
