Pee-Wee's Big Adventure Bike

Yeah, what Jack said, I cupped mine so it lays against the spokes, because they do tend to rub when left flat, look at the museum bikes, the paint is rubbed off all of them.

You read my mind Jack! I thought I would try the washers first and see how much thread is left for the nut then maybe try to bend the discs... I also thought about flattening the back of the fork a little for clearance.

I like the look of the cupped Billy....Did you just pie cut the disk and weld it back together to get it to cup like that?

Mine dont rub, they're not even close to rubbing. It's a good idea to get your wheels trued really well. Clearances are tight in the front with the spinners and in the rear with the skirt guards.

That's it Brownie, if you go that way, make the disc a little larger, 8 1/4"-8 3/8", if you want it to be 8", because you lose some width when you weld it back together.

Rud... I am away from it all weekend or I would. Here are some other pics of it though.

Nice score Dalek, all you need now is some good chrome cleaner/polish, super fine #00000 steel wool and a little elbow grease and you'll be surprised how nice they'll clean up, as long as it's just surface rust.

Yeah it's basically all surface rust, though this rim is slightly larger, and I believe it'll need 1 & 3/4" tires. Might try the diet coke method as it'll practically rub off after soaking there for a bit.:lol

I never tried Diet Coke as a rust remover, you'll have to post some after pics, you're gonna run S-7's?, I guess they'll give you better clearance

Hopefully they'll do nicely, really excited, and even if they don't there is always my local swap meet! I'll gladly post some pics too! That reminds me, while entering the shop, I saw the shimano 3 speed shifter. Didn't need it though so I didn't buy it, anyone can grab it!

Dalek, before you buy tires, I believe the museum bikes use 26 x 2.125" tires, not 1.75". Never tried the Diet Coke method, but Billy's right about the chrome polish/super fine steel wool thing. So many chrome parts look shiny & almost new after using that method. Just have to be persistent & patient, & they will look way better than expected.

Rudd,
Ahh, gotcha. Didn't realize that about S7s. I was looking at a set for another build, but have to scratch that then. I'm a big fella, so skinny tires won't work for me personally.

Frank,
Feels liberating, doesn't it? I felt awesome when I successfully completed the emergency transplant surgery on my mirror.

Actually yeah coke & super fine steel wool gets a lot of stuff of that rim! Here's what I've done since I started about half an hour ago:

The phosphoric acid in the coke and most soft drinks dissolves the rust. Also since we're on the topic of rims/tires, if anyone is looking for lightning darts cheap. There's a set of indian head blackwall ones on ebay for about $58, there is cracking though. Item: 111481851619

By the way, frank do you know how to remove that black spot in my mirror?
