Pee-Wee's Big Adventure Bike

Hooray for actually having the correct frame and fenders! Looking good Ollin.

Thanks Skillcrane. I spent some time on them today, got the master done for the top lid, and got back to left side master. That one needs the most work, I've been putting it off. Lol.

Thanks Josh. I hope to have the doors cut out and hinges installed this week. I just dropped my left side rear skirt off at the machine shop with the bracket mods made that I want. Once that is done then the last parts go off to powder coat and then I just have to finish the bags.

As you can see, the acrylic experiment did not go so well. I switched to MDF for the center skirt project. Made a template out of white cardboard and had a nice cut with the MDF board. I would highly recommend MDF over the acrylic for anyone thinking of doing this part of the project. Started on the chrome taped strips by cutting them out of plastic styrene. The chrome tape is not as easy as I thought. This piece is taking a lot longer than I anticipated, but still having a good time trying to figure it all out.

MDF is cheaper, easier to find, and is what was actually used in the movie. If you seal it well and paint it well it wont get water damaged very easily.

are you going to have those chromed? that would look cool. I cut my "bones" for the skirt out of the same mdf material and covered them with chrome tape.

I cut mine out of styrene plastic and covered them with chrome tape also. They have the chrome tape on them in the picture. I think they may be a little too thin. I should have used the mdf material. Do they look alright?

I might try to use the mdf for the bones. As far as the rest of the skirt, I could not find brass strip anywhere. I checked all the local hardware stores in addition to Lowes and Home Depot. I am going to try and use 1 inch pipe straps. Very difficult to bend, so we shall see how it holds.

Turk... a couple of thoughts.

You should be able to get 1" wide brass strips from any hobby store. They have little racks of K&S engineering brass pieces like so:

Brass Strips - K & S Precision Metals: Full Line Metal Specialists

I do have extras still of the of the ones I had machined, but the obviously doing it yourself would be cheaper.

The details on the frame inserts, are 1/2" wide by 1/4" thick. Yours look a little too wide. Also, if you are going to cover it with foil, use the thinner of the chrome foils, I think you can find it in the duct work section. It's easier to work with and is more screen accurate.

Hope that helps,

Gregg

Hello everyone new guy here, does anyone here sell the pee wee chain guard or the saddle bags? I want to try and build this bike. I have a background in Schwinn stingrays/krates and some prewar bikes.

Hi Frank, welcome. Turk, I made mine with brass strips that I got from my local ace hardware. They're super easy. Get yourself some cheap tin snips and you'll be done with 'em in no time.
