Pee-Wee's Big Adventure Bike

Sorry, Renaissance, I mis-read what you said. I thought you were saying it dropped down TO $10K, not that it dropped down BY that much. LOL

******, just saw that UPI is mis-reporting the "story" as well. Of course, reporting that it is the real deal.

From their story...

===========================================================================================
"The seller says the bike is currently in pieces, but that all the parts are there, including the bicycle bell and handlebar streamers. The person also says he has a letter from the studio to prove the bike's authenticity, and that he will throw in an autographed photo of Paul Reubens, the actor who played Pee-wee, as part of the deal."
===========================================================================================

Do you see how a very carefully worded listing will get easily twisted into something much larger? Now the authenticity is on the bike, & that the real bell & streamers are present, & he is "throwing in" the autograph (which I'm guessing is the only legit part).

OK, new plan. What if all of us list our bikes at the same time, & there are 25 or so carefully worded listings competing simultaneously, with a minimum bid of $10K on each?

Oooh ooh ooh, better yet, someone needs to bid a hundred million, trillion, billion dollars on it, & then not pay. :p

skillcrane hit the nail on the head in his assessment of the eBay listing.

It's disappointing to me that eBay would craft a front-page story about this auction without verifying the authenticity. The author of that article has made lots of assumptions. In my opinion, it's eBay that is saying the bike is screen-used. Then TMZ and other media are running with that, which is hyping the bids.

Hmm, it was almost at 35K last time I checked. The highest bidder had a feedback score of 606 or something and that guys bid is gone. Maybe he realized it wasn't authentic and pulled his bid?

Can't believe how much attention this bike got. It went days without a bid, and then he raises the price and BOOM! Bidders! I should drive down to ocean side and see the bike! It's down the freeway from my work!

I wish you would see it for yourself and check out the supporting authentication documents. This auction has really intrigued me, and it's just not passing the smell test in my opinion.

He updated the listing:

"I am getting a large volume of messages that I cannot keep up with.* A common question is "Why is the bike in pieces?".* Because I was getting ready to sell it, but a buyer backed out.* I don't have the time or urge to re assemble it only to take it apart again for the next buyer"

"I apologize if I do not answer your questions, I work full time and go to school full time.* I am not an avid ebayer and I simply just cannot handle the volume of incoming messages.* I will try my best to respond to them."

What about the other common questions regarding the authenticity of the bike.

On a lighter note, just to give some updates, I finished painting my frame and assembled most of the pieces i have just to get a feel for how shed ride. In one word "Heavy"! had to push it back up my drive way, Couldn't help but think about peewee riding the stripped down schwinn in the opening dream sequence, just imagine riding one of these up the pyrenees, HA

Guys I put an 19 tooth rear cog on mine, it really helps, I'll double check but I had a 18,19,20 ready to install depending on how it rode. It all depends on the brand of the hub, but most common wheels will be bendix style, its easy to find those to adjust the gear ratio. The front is a 46T, so you just need to change the rear.

Dmarks, your bike looks great. In the end it should weigh in close to 100lbs.

That pics looks like you have some wicked chopper bars/grips going on, if you look at it funny.

Dmarks, your bike looks awesome! It's true, riding the Pee Wee bike is a great way to get a leg workout. The furthest I rode mine was about 3 miles; hills were a challenge!

Dmarks, your bike is looking great! Yeah they weigh a ton. I thought my prewar military Columbia bicycle was a boat anchor. I haven't even added my saddle bags yet. I am only running a vintage Carlisle in the front. I'm hoping this will prevent a blowout....

Abelugo - I hope it was on the way home from work
Progun- It looks like the red light is still on the front of the lions from his pics, There is definitely Disney on the bell but it looks more like a Donald silhouette. Unless mickey wears blue on the bell on you your bikes. I'd have to go back and really study this thread to find out
<-ME- Stop obsessing you always obsess.
Dmarks- I hope you live somewhere with a lot of flat straight roads.
