The wife wanted to be a Minion from Despicable me and two of her friends jumped on the bandwagon. I figured it wouldn't be too hard to beat the yellow garbage can designs I'd seen on Google.
This is my first post to the site. I hope I can help any new costume makers with brainstorming and I'm sure I'll learn a lot from all of you. Thanks!
The Build
Each body is made from a full sheet of 1/2" EVA foam. The dome head is made by inflating a yoga ball to the appropriate diameter and applying paper mache. Tons of fill/sand helped get a smooth surface. The goggles are made from more EVA foam, weather stripping for details, and round topped furniture nails for fake rivets. The eyes were made by stretching spandex over plastic hoops. With the right amount of tension you get a two way glass effect where light reflects off the front appearing white, but they are see through from inside the dark costume. The purple minion hair is made from coconut husk mat usually used in planters. The siren lights are made from juice pitchers that were trimmed and painted with transparent spray paint, and then lined with chrome duct tape at the base.
