Pacific Rim (Post-release)

Seeing it again in IMAX 3D tomorrow. Very excited. Meanwhile I've become slightly obsessed.

I ordered several of the NECA figures from ToyWiz--a Gipsy Danger and a Knifehead for my son, and a full set of Series 1 figures for me (that's going into storage). I've been contemplating pre-ordering the upcoming 18" Gipsy Danger but I may wait and take my chances trying to find it locally. ToyWiz had them for $84.99 yesterday, then $114.99 last night, and $139.99 today. :wacko

I was going to skip this movie and actually hearing everyone here talk about it made me want to go see and boy am I glad I did. My only beef is I wish we could of gotten more scenes out of the Chinese and Russian Jaegers. I was also pretty happy I could see the fights actually happen and not treated to the shaky-cam, quick-cut camera moves.

We saw it again in IMAX 3D this evening at Downtown Disney. According to my son, "It was more awesomer in 3D!" I agree. The 3D really added a lot to the experience (it added depth without being gimmicky), and was possibly the best 3D presentation I've seen. Unfortunately, it was so loud that my son was covering his ears and I had to ask them to turn it down. (They didn't.)

The whole time, I was watching with an eye toward replicating the suits. RPF members pull off some amazing stuff, but I can't imagine pulling off a Jaeger pilot suit without studio resources. (I hope someone surprises me.)

Me and my friend saw this last night and were both really surprised at how good it was, I would definitely see this again, a good solid action film, and I agree that the fight scenes could have quite easily have ended up a right old mess, but they really worked well!

Apparently there was about an hour of footage cut, so you'll probably get your wish when it comes out on dvd/bluray. *fingers crossed*

I really think Dvd and bluray sales are going to help Pacific Rim get a sequel as well. I know alot of people who just don't like
going to the cinema and prefer watching movies at home.

I'm more curious to see what a sequel would be about, considering they closed the portal up. I guess another option would to be displaying the battles between the initial Kaiju attacks and everything up to the beginning of this film? More a PRE-qual

The portal opened twice already. Firstly when the dinos were around, and again recently when Gipsy Danger blew it up. Assuming they didn't wipe out the entire species, they're still out there somewhere and could return again.

No doubt, but it was "destroyed" in a sense that where ever the portal originated from was destroyed (at least the immediate area) along with whatever generates the portal to begin with.

Not that it couldn't return, but if they decided to go that route, we'd need to seem some type of full scale invasion or something radically new in that respect for a sequel

I seem to recall that in a recent interview, Del Toro hinted at the kaiju using parts that got "left behind" by Gipsy Danger. (If there was anything actually left over after it blew up.)

This isn't the interview, but it has some discussion of a sequel, as well as the 3D conversion concerns. I didn't realize that GDT resisted the 3D conversion, but I thought it worked really well--aside from one shot that made a helicopter look like a miniature.
