P2 Closed Mouth Build. Raw Latex 1St Pull P24 24/11/11

Lee the mask looks great. Despite the fact it did not turn out the way you wanted it to. This silicone stuff is just too cool! Its got me so excited to experiment.

Of course mistakes teach us valuable lessons, glad you posted it here for people to remember. Mechanical lock is a bitch. I am guessing the white colored silicone lends itself well to being painted a flesh tone?

How do you attach dreds to this? cutting holes or some silicone glue?

Good job dude.

Yeah i am not really botherd about it at all Gene, as i said i may not even get time to paint this anyway, which kinda begs the question, 'why go to the trouble ' lol.

As for dreads i would have done the same as the P1, just cut out the silicone skin in the dread hole, then superglue the dread to the foam underneath, those suckers on my p1 are not coming off easy.

Hey Usurper, I just read this entire thread. I say do another silicone before you do the latex just to say you did it and get a perfect pull. I do have a question. Unless you were thinking of mechanizing it why even use silicone? By the way the head does really look kick ass. Very nice sculpt.

Use the Silicone head to make ANOTHER Ultracal mold. Then you can run double P2's all da wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

Consider it your master copy. Doesnt get any better than that for a Master.

Oh yea one more thing. You sounded a bit negative about how long you've been wotking on the P2. Cheer up and keep moving forward. Look how long Carl has been working on the backpack. I finished the Topknot head sculpt 15 years ago and I still need to paint it. Keep up the good work.

lol thanks guys.

the latex has already been poured, but i am keeping the 1st latex pull , which i may make a resin mould off in the future.

As for why silicone, well 1st i did my p1 in silicone, for the reason of a more realistic looking skin, more flexible/harder wearing.Since i did my p1 i have stretched it to hell and back on stickam showing people, hosed it down twice in the garden due to it being alittle dusty, and generally treated it with no respect. yet it looks as good as it did the day i painted it. Latex .............would be a mess by now.
So i figured why not do a p2 the same? afterall, people were telling me i couldnt do a Silicone mask,........ yet now i have 2, soon to be a silicone suit. so i guess it is also alittle **** you, to the naysayers.

also its my little way of pushing the boundries of what we do here.

expensive.......yes
hard work...........yes
worth it ................. HELL YES !!

I am not too negative about the time scale, it took me a while but i had alot going on in my personnel life, my main gripe was my p1 suit time scale , i seem to have been going 2 steps forward then one back until i decided to go balls out and do silicone hehe.

Gene, 1st night shift in 5 months last night = only 4 hrs sleep, i needed occupying while the coffee sank in, so i threw alittle base colours on it today , so no moulding it now.

serioulsy though, i am NOT bummed out or upset in the slightest.

as for Carl, no comment.

Pics or it didn't happen.

ok it didnt happen then, as i only have a PIC. not PICS

Just did alittle white and yellow test. just to see how the coverage and colours were.

Is it much different? Painting latex or silicone
everyone have his own way to paint a mask.
Inks
paint and Prosaid
perma wet.

Silicone masks, needs silicone based paints, no prosaide or inks will work sadly.

all the base was done with a old stubby brush, and me stippling it on, then alittle finger spreading around lol. i was like a kid in preschool.

Looks like the paint covered that black foam no problem! That's awesome.

You said you're doing your own paints with caulking and thinner, right? What are you using as a thinner? I've used toluene before to thin caulking for a mold, but wasn't very happy with it. Not to mention it's nasty **** to play around with!

And Acrylic paint mixed in?

no i have a product for thinning here from mouldlife , it was recommended to me when i used the FUSEFX on my p1, its called " SUPER CITRI SCENT 11 " ( i think )

I am using thinned gel00 with silcpig pigments, they are NOWHERE near as good as FUSEFX, but the trial pack colours were the price of 1 FUSEFX colour , so will suffice for the p2.

freaking late to the party again....damn lee another silicone headpiece?....your a madman dude

what's next?...a silicone suit?.....awesome stuff brotha

Looking awesome dude. Hopefuly I get to see one of them in person and im able to paint it. Like always Badass Lee.

Cheers Chris, im looking forward to trying some paint ups on this myself, just going to do a limited run for now, then do my own paint ups for a while. :)

Would like to see how this bad boy looks with a bio on.
Can you post pix, which show your open-mouth P2 and this one side by side?
Great work by the way ...

Dominik

well as silicone does not shrink it would be a unfair comparison.

however............ i took the 1st latex p2 out of the mould about 30 mins ago, i will take a photos of it later.

i will try to grab a couple of shots of the open mmouth and closed mouth at a later date, but the closed mouth at 1st glance looks like it will be slightly bigger when it has cured and shrank.
