P1 Stunt Bio-Helmet Cleanup

Looking great Art.. You are well on your way. BTW.. For members who may not know Art, he is the owner or the Replica Prop Forum.. A pleasure to have as part of our community

He's a tool. I heard his real first name is Braks, not Art, and rumor on the RPF has it that he talks funny.

Just playing! I first met Art in person like 10 years ago and I love the guy to death! He also started the Fett costume forum The Dented Helmet, besides being current owner of the RPF.

Thanks. The Royce has stalled a bit while I am waiting on the final shotgun shell pouches. I was hoping to have it ready for Comic Con, but that is looking pretty unlikely at this point.

Dragon Con.

I failed to pick up the Bluray yesterday, but hope to pick it up today. In the meantime, I did find this screencap online which shows definitively the crosshatch pattern in the lenses (I was beginning to think it wasn't there) and I believe strongly points to the lenses being seperated as we saw in the pics of the original helmet posted by James. Again, not conclusive and I hope the bluray will shed more light on the issue, but based on this, some other caps, and the original helmet James posted, I really don't believe the lens is a single piece. Does anyone have evidence that it is a single piece?

Just as a note, I am not arguing about what looks better or the intent, only what I believe to actually be how the one in the movie bio is made.

As another note, it is interesting that the crosshatching is square as opposed to an elongated diamond shape as seen on the AVP helmets.

Good question...one that we may never know the answer to

Yeah... it is very frustrating, but I am thinking I am going to go with the connection between the eyes on my helmet. I know it isn't the most aesthetically pleasing, but based on what I have seen, I think it is accurate.

I also bought a Predator poster on eBay that shows the helmet pretty well in hopes that it will shed some light... we will see.

Having that extra support is always good in the event that there is an accidental drop. Plus, when the lenses are in you won't really notice anyway.

Art, if you pick up the blue ray, check out the behind the scenes footage (If it's still included). There is a part where KPH is in the lot practicing, where you may be able to tell about the gap...

I will check that out for sure. The one concern is that on many bluray discs, the extra features are still essentially at DVD quality, but we will see!

Finally figured out how to do caps off a Bluray (what an utter pain that was!). Here is what I feel is definitive proof that the center section is indeed there in the movie. It also shows that the eyes are not even remotely symmetrical.

As a side note, while I was never questioning George's mold, it was really nice to see a number of tells in the movie that no one would ever copy, but are clearly in the stunt casting.

I also think, unlike AVP, the lenses are very thin and flexible. You can see them buckling in areas. I am going to try window screen over limo tint and see if it achieves the look or not.

Damn it. All that time I spent Dremeling that section out, reinforcing it and then trying to get the inside even so a single lense would fit across both sections. Where were you six months ago, Art?!

If you truly wanted to make an accurate Art Andrews style P1 bio, you would have the laser housing but not the tri-laser pod. In that particular movie, the laser pod was attached inside the foam latex undermask, and just jutted through the open hole of the laser housing in the helmet.

While there will of course have to be some compromise (because my wall display won't have the head, just the mask) what makes you think that my lasers won't be seperate? Come on Andy... you know me from TDH... but I promise not to drive this community crazy with being a stickler for details like I am with Fett.

Sorry man... This is the first time I have really looked at the P1 helmet. Most people don't know this, but the Predator Bio is the first prop I ever tried to buy, long before I knew about the RPF... back when I was a teen. I never got one (didn't have the money) but have always had a secret passion for it. Having just seen some of the originals in person and having the opportunity to get a helmet from George's mold made now seem like the time to finally stick a toe in the water over here.

In regard to accuracy on the P1, there is no doubt that the way you cut your helmet is more of the intent for the look and will obviously look a lot better in person... but as Andy will tell you, I have this horrible nagging thing for doing it like it is in the movie, even if it is crappy.

You do realise you have now thrown a spanner in the works, juuuuuuuuuuuuust before i start to work on mine !! lol.

damn you man

nice to see people still being so consumed in getting things accurate these days, most people just rush.

looking forward to more progress

I would have to say that for those who rush are either impatient, are not as caring to details, or just think it is cool to just have a prop. As to where for those of us who are really picky, detailed oriented, LOVE the PREDATOR want to make sure that our bios are looking like the real deal otherwise there is no point behind owning one.

Lies! Lies! All lies! I have never, EVER met someone who was more a stickler for prop detail than you, and I've even met Gino once before!

I'll let you in on a little secret, you are so synonymous with being meticulously anal about prop research, that whenever I am talking with another old school TDHer on this board and about to do some serious internet research for some certain costume piece, I say "I am about to go Art Andrews some stuff". True story.
What can I say? Your costume research skills are legend. I painted my current set of Boba armor using high res M.O.M. photos you took.
