Outlander Gun

I just watched the Jim Caviezel film Outlander. I don't think it was as bad as most people say, at least it was an example of Hollywood trying to do something vaguely original, rather than trotting out yet another remake.

I took some screencaps of the folding weapon that Caviezel's character carries at the start of the film, and promptly loses before getting to use it for something other than shooting trees.

These might prove useful for someone trying to make a replica.

Enjoy.

Very cool looking weapon. I had not heard of this movie before. Might have to Netflix it just to see that gun in action:lol

Here's what I have pics of, is this the sword you are talking about? This is Kainan's hero sword. I have a sort of back-up hero-ish sword... :cool Same handle, but the blade is a bit cheaper in make (but still metal).

This one has some kind of pattern in the metal of the blade (or maybe that's some way of weathering the metal?), and it was actually pretty sharp... This one sold for $1000 at auction.

I have a few more pics if you want them...

With a real sword, the metal is folded over on itself many times as it's forged, producing the pattern you see on that one. It might just be a surface finish on the prop, but if it's a hero prop and literally sharp (not just sharp-lookin')... it might be a real sword.

Yeah, definitely really sharp. I have another blade from the hero sword that the screw broke off of (the the pommel attaches to), so the handle is missing... It has the same pattern in the metal, and definitely seems to be part of the metal itself. I almost cut myself on the blade when I first got it. :cool I'm not sure who made the swords for the movie, but some of them are quite well made. I have several loose blades, and they all have a pretty sharp edge, and significant weight to them... I think the studio was actually concerned about liability when they were selling them.

That's a cool sword, all right, but I was talking about the crazy made-from-the-spaceship one.

Ahh, yeah, forgot all about that one... :rolleyes Several versions of 'alien tech' weapons were sold, one hatchet like weapon, one hand sword (basically an oversized knife), and two versions of the big sword you are talking about. One was full sized, and used during the 'forging' scene (so half of the blade is blackened like it's being forged), and doesn't have the handle made up. The other is a perfect CNC milled complete sword (still with no handle details), but the company that made it made it half size (so it's only about 2 1/2-feet long), and as such wasn't used in the film. Here's the pics I have handy:
Hatchet, long knife weapon, 2 shots of the 'being forged' sword, and two shots of the undersized sword. (I own the undersized one, the large one is owned by someone on YourProps, he might even be here, not sure...) I might have better pictures of these at home...

To my knowledge, the hero 'alien' sword was kept by the production company, so I've never seen it in person... I've also never seen the gun Kainan's using, or the electronic gadgets he had from his ship forsale either...

I don't know why, but the gun, especially the housing, reminds me of some kind of Nerf gun from the 90's.

I'll see if I can find out what vision haunts my brain...

Hi everyone. I worked on this movie, and was responsible for Jim's spacesuit that he wears during and after his crash landing. I have all the molds still. It was created in the same style as the gun and sword, a kind of silver grey alien steel.

Whoa! Paul, good to see you here. I still have some of your pieces, though I've sold off much of my collection.

Any chance we could see some pictures? I have yet to see this movie but I'm greatly intrigued!

Re: Outlander suit pictures

This was a show from hell for me, as at one point i did a 42 hour shift, I didn't take too many pictures. Here are a couple of the ones i remembered to take though. The suit was about half fibreglass and half foam latex, but the big cannon gun was thin resin and rigid urethane foam. Caviezel is an interesting character for sure.

I am going to run a suit one day for my display room.

Just FYI the sword in these pictures looks like a detailed version of this one:

I have one myself that I changed the material on the grip to deerhide. (Sorry about the rotated picture it's an iPhone pic.) And yes the pictures posted previously show that it might be a real forged sword.

I don't think it's a Nerf gun. I looked around and couldn't find it. (This guy has a fairly comprehensive list: http://nerfguns.org/ )

Something in my head says this is a Supersoaker or similar style gun.

Edit: Or maybe not. ( http://www.isoaker.com/Armoury/Analysis/SuperSoaker_tree_all_series.html )

The front cowling of that gun is definitely familiar...
