A friend of mine wants me to help him make a fin for is motorcycle for behind the seat. He wants it to be fiberglass so I thought to carve it in foam then cover it with fiberglass clothe and resin. Do you think this will work and if so what type of foam will with stand the resin. Thank you all for your help this guy has really been bugging me and I just want to get it made and finished!

Urethane foam is compatible with both epoxy and polyester resins. Polystyrene foam (pink or blue insulation board) will melt if you use polyester resin.

I would go with a surfboard quality foam like Spyderfoam.

You can shape (carve) it then throw the glass on top of it just like they do when the make a surfboard.
