ORCA scratch build

Flimzy, if a studio approached you and said they were going to do a remake of Jaws, and it was going to be terrible, but they wanted you to build an exact full-size replica of the Orca, and the pay would be marginal, would you do it?

It might help to elaborate on that question a bit more.

How detailed/accurate does the result need to be?

How brutal is the time deadline?

How low is the pay?
Are we talking "Less than the builder is worth" or are we talking "so little that the builder ends up losing money on it"?

I worked on Meg2 knowing it would be terrible. But I got to design a real functioning dive helmet wile art directing the exo suit. I art directed the new Tardis without being a who fan. The questions for me are, is the job actualy real/happening, I’m local 800 so cheep isn’t a thing I cut my teeth 36 years ago doing jobs for free or no money.
But that’s besides the point the real question here is ,does jaws need a remake?
For me absolutely no , the actors, the 70ys are gone. look at the thing remake, I just ask why. I love the black and white version and John carters remake brought something to the table . There’s nothing missing from the table with jaws. Lighting in a bottle perfection.

Now that I’ve improved the accuracy of the model I’m going to have to address the scale of the figures

I was just working away and it popped in to my head that there was a scenario that I would jump at the chance, that’s if they made a making of film like the stage show. The boat sinking with the sound man shouting save the sound department. The diver looking for the sunken Bruce in the murky water and thinking it was a real shark. Drafuss sleeping with everyone on the island. I’ve always thought it would make a great comedy movie. The story’s that the crew tell could easily fill a 2 hour movie.

That's interesting. I was wondering if being a fan of the Orca was enough to interest you in making one for a film you had no interest in seeing get made. I agree, a behind-the-scenes docu-drama would be a good subject though.

I wonder how you're going to reconciliate your figures' scale with your new Orca? Besides that, flimzy, your build is epic in every sense of the word:cool::cool::cool::notworthy::notworthy::notworthy::notworthy: As for a behind-the-scene drama...that would be interesting.(y)(y)

There going to have the chop

I have thought a lot about what else could be done with JAWS. I'm still against the idea too.

A remake is not an option. You aren't gonna paint a better Mona Lisa than Leonardo did. And even if you could, the movie wouldn't be the same kind of hit these days.

The only major new tool/asset that a remake would have is the ability to show the shark more. But JAWS is literally the textbook example of why that's a bad plan.

Anything else that's actually good will be a different kind of show. It will end up being too far removed from the 1975 movie. Hiring some modern actors to cosplay as 'Hooper' and 'Brody' does not make it JAWS.

Yep, like Alien...at a certain point you'll have to show the beast. Loved that it was mainly hidden during the movie = more suspense (y)(y)

Thinking about it, that's one of the only new ideas for JAWS that I could see myself enjoying.

The 1975 movie has so many lovable characters, props, locations, etc. The main draw to revisit it would be to see all that 'stuff' again.

I feel like Hollywood underestimates how often this kind of thing could work. When they do sequels they always want to repeat the old movie from the POV of the original marketing. "The first one was a killer shark movie, so let's give them another killer shark movie." But often it's the characters and the tone/mojo that make people want to come back, not the specific quest/storyline.

I was involved in a sequel to silent running a few years ago, it died with Dough Tumble and now sits in a volt at universal :-( . it had Bruce coming back with his daughter as the lead. Directed and written by Pat Johnson. Dough was only Producing, It was a great modern continuation of the story bringing a new twist. Pat wanted to stick with models. Its the one time I've been excited about the possibility of bringing something to the table. Well it never happened and Bruce might not be around much longer. ha Hollywood
