I acquired an old Midway Sea Raider and am converting it over to a 20,000 Leagues machine as they had in the parks back in the day when the ride was still there. I have sourced the glass art, will replace the torpedo lights with green "eye" lights, and will be modifying the sound system to play film appropriate sound effects. I will likely replace the back cabinet art (UV reactive) with the Sea Devil stormy sky if I can find or duplicate it as well as replacing the ship target with a period appropriate one. All that being said, the original Disney cabs used a wood veneer to cover the original cabinet art. I don't like that look at all. I was planning to use thin sheet metal and false rivet heads to cover the machine and mimic the Nautilus hull (this will also allow me to keep the original stencil work intact and under cover).
Soooo,
Will likely use Metal Effects paint to get an aged look. I have been trying to find an aged copper look with some patina but they all seem way too green or irridescent to match up. Do you think the hull is iron rust, bronze, or and aged copper? I had always thought the latter but I think that may be wrong.
Thanks guys-
Doc
P.S. Sorry I haven't been around as much lately. I have been doing a lot more arcade based stuff as of late. Hope to have one or 2 relevant movie projects in time for Philips' party though.
