Well, I would like to know if the staff sanctioned the Raz project in the junkyard.
Don't be ridiculous. You know as well as anyone else that is not the case. Pete, in his own words over at the OT:
Rick knew that I was taking over the project, that I would be using Guy's drawings, that I would be having him approve the prototype (at least if I remember correctly he knew this), that no money was going to be going to Guy and that I intended to donate the profits to charity. Rick had absolutely no other dealings with the project during my tenure at its helm because I moved it off the RPF entirely (and I doubt that he had any afterward, either). The only reason he even knew as much as he did was because (at the time) he was the one in charge of the Junkyard and I wanted him to be aware of what was happening with this "tainted" project. To the best of my knowledge, he never "dealt with someone he would never let back into the RPF".
What do we learn from this and the other bits of info?
- GR knew his cover was about to blown
- GR contacted DK69 (Pete) to take over the project
- DK669 agreed to take over the project from GR
- No money was to go to GR
- Money that DK got from the project would be donated to charity
- DK informed Rick to stay "above board"
- DK moved the project from the RPF
- DK abandoned the project sometime later
- Clay picked up the project from GR
- Clay is making this run happen with some (?) input from GR
I only know Pete from a few years back, so I can't really speak to his intentions, but I think he was trying to make the best of a bad situation. Attempting to salvage a project that had been hoped for for years by members of the community, and yet remove GR from the picture entirely.
So, if we can believe DK (I do) and Clay (who knows?), GR is not getting any money from this, so technically they were not shilling for GR.
Should they be banned simply for associating with a banned member? Sharing information with him about projects, asking his opinion? If we start doing that, where does it end? Lots of people on the RPF, even in this thread, have friendships with people that have been banned from the RPF. Do they get the boot, too? I don't think that's fair...
Well, you say... GR is not just a banned member, but he is bad. REALLY BAD. I agree, and that's why I asked the mods to move this thread from the OT to the Prop Forum so that even our newest members could be warned about dealing with him.
Still, I think we need to be careful about going down the path of banning people due to their online associations alone. I think it's enough for the membership to know that GR is out there, and that he has some (perhaps small) part in this project. Let the members decide for themselves how to use the information.
Rick is not here to defend himself. He has real-life issues that he's dealing with right now, and hasn't been online much. But to think that he was trying to pull a fast one on the members here is ridiculous. He's spent the last half dozen years on the board, and everyone knows that he is a standup guy who would do anything within his power to help anyone on the board, and to keep the predators away from the RPF.
Don't be swayed by the sockpuppets and their friends who are just here to spread rumors and discontent. They have their little burrows to hide in and congratulate themselves on thier deceit...
