This one is going to be tough.
I've looked everywhere with no luck.

This is for the little box/container that is found on the base of the tie/at-at pilot mowhawk, near the neck.

Here is what I know:
1. The container approx. dimensions are 2" (50mm) wide, 1 3/8" (34mm) tall, and 3/8" (34mm) deep.

2. The lid (colored white) is glued to the mowhawk. The surface that is glued would be the top of the lid face up if it was setting on the table. The reason that we cannot detect any manufacturing info is because it is most likely written on the same surface that is adhered to the mowhawk. There is no writing anywhere else on the container.

3. The base of the container could either be naturally black colored, or painted black. We don't know for sure, but I believe that black is it's natural color because I don't think they would have masked off the white lid before painting.

4. The box is spring loaded. In other words, if you were to open it, it would want to snap closed like a clam shell.

5. In the below pic of the inside of the white lid, what you are seeing is where the owner of this particular helmet wrote their name in magic marker. On the real found item, it is just plain white.

I have no idea what a container like this would be used for. It's pretty shallow so that should narrow it down a bit as far as what was supposed to go inside.

Any theory's that might further the search would be very much welcomed.
An actual find, and I would probably fall out of my chair.
In fact, if you can ID the part with the available source, PM me and as a reward, I'll GIVE you a tie pilot helmet!

When I see that, I think of an old style cigarette case or something similar. It looks to have the depth, but maybe not the length? Maybe makeup case?

I doubt it would still be produced 30yrs on though. but here's hoping!

Ohh I just thought of maybe a case for an ink pad. That would explain why the base is black, and the size would be about right.

First thing that sprang to mind is also an ink pad case, but I have never encountered an ink pad with a spring lid.

How certain are we that the lid is spring loaded?
I am in favour of the ink pad theory, but have never come across a spring loaded one.

Looks exactly like the aluminum soap dish off an aircraft. They cost the gov about $400 and you can prob get one for about $5 LOL. The srping hinge flap is so the soap doesn't fly away.

If the spring loaded lid is an absolute certainty, then I doubt very much it is an ink pad case. I use an ink pad almost on a daily basis and I can tell you that I'd throw the thing in the bin everytime I want to use it if it had a spring loaded lid. When you have pieces of documents that you're trying to keep down on the desk while trying to get some ink on that rubber stamp, the last thing you need is a lid that won't stay open.

I'm in favor of the pill box theory as the spring loaded lid would make sense to keep the pills from falling out accidentally, or to prevent them from being left expose to the elements should the user forget to close the lid. Another theory is some kind of candy box.

I've been trying to find this box fr years too whenever I'm out and about, but haven't seen anything that come even close to it so far.

Guys,

Here's what I know after having one in my possession for a considerable amount of time. I was happy to pass this info onto Gino and maybe something will jog others memories here

1) It is springloaded with quite a "snap" when it shuts

2) Its fixed to the TIE helmet via its white plastic lid and is glued down - hence any markings could only be found by removing it (something I didnt dare do). The base is black plastic - neither top or bottom is painted.

3) I didnt measure the internal depth dimension (duh!) but it was VERY shallow

So logic tells me that whatever it stored in it was small, thin and probably fairly valuable. I dont go will the idea of pills since you'd lose half of them every time you opened the box!

IMO it stored EITHER a record player needle or guitar plectrums. I was right with the At-At danglies and think I'm close on this one - but would be overjoyed if anyone nails this.

Think small, THIN and valuable.

Mic - your post made me laugh out loud!:lol

Cheers

My first thought was a case to hold some sort of makeup, though that stamp case looks strangely close. Especially with the notch on the lid.

The spring loaded part throws me. It did make me think of a calculator I had once, though. It's top was spring loaded, and we know calc parts were used on the Fett, among other things.

I know what it is, I just can't tell you. :lol

As far as "found item" prop thingies illiterate as I am, and not knowing for sure if you are joking or not, IMHO, posts like yours only serve to befuddle those not "In the know"; they make people think twice as hard, or, if the reader is a New member, may decide altogether to quit this forum based on that it may be "too criptive or deceptive"...

If you know what the damn part is, post the result or PM someone and end it... Don't tag the rest along while this continues for another 4 pages before the answer is finally posted...

Now, if you are "Bound by Oath" that "You just can't tell us...", why post at all that you know? all that does is add to the frustration of the thread...

Dammit....

If someone knows something about anything, and they dont want to post, frakking email or PM someone and be done with it, and don't force a thread to run longer than it should when the requested information is found or available...

Perhaps your post was in jest, and I took it entirely the wrong way... If so, I apologize for my subsequent rant...

If not, well... As I said, I dunno from your post if you're being facetious or not...

Box for automotive fuses? The spring loaded lid suggests it's to keep little things inside from falling out... :confused
